As a matter of fact she is mentioned by Acts as being present at Pentecost. And she may be mentioned in John’s Revelation as the lady surrounded by twelve stars. John implicitly mentions her in his prologue, where he speaks of the Word becoming flesh. One does not have to accept Catholic mariology in toto as true to know that Mary played a critical role in our salvation, simply by bearing a child.

Why only in these particular writings? There were hundreds of other Christian writings. Why are these and not others, Scripture?

Says CynicalBear
The fact is that Mary is no where mentioned after the ascension.
Of course he is wrong. Again.

In Acts 1:26 (clearly AFTER the Holy Ascension of Our Lord), especially v. 14, Mary is the only one to be mentioned by name other than the eleven apostles, who abode in the upper room, when they returned from mount Olivet. She is also mentioned asthe "elect lady" in 2 John 1:1. And then she is again portrayed as the heavenly woman of Revelation.

Mary's last words in the Bible were at the Wedding Feast of Cana where Jesus works his first miracle. What does she say?

"Do whatever HE tells you."

Everything -- absolutely everything else in the Bible is directed to Jesus at that point!

Why? Because, well, because. Maybe because the Holy Spirit guided the Councils of the Church? Well, only if we pretend that they were never “Catholic”!

Works are a natural outgrowth of salvation, the FRUIT of it. The fruit doesn't give life to the tree, the tree gives life to the fruit. Saying one believes and adding works to it is also no different that tying fruit on a tree and acting as if the tree really produced it. Sure it may look it from a distance but it's not genuine.

Very well said! Man made religion is the business of attaching fruit to the tree instead of the fruit being a natural production of a healthy tree. All the scotch-taped fruit on a bad tree cannot turn the tree into a good one, and the fruit eventually rots because it has no nourishment going to it. It will dry up. You have made a really good point. Thanks.

Making the thread "about" individual Freepers is also a form of "making it personal."

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

No more that Elijah.

Moses died. God tells us that in Scripture.

Deuteronomy 34 34 Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And the Lord showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, 2 all Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the western sea, 3 the Negeb, and the Plain, that is, the Valley of Jericho the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar.

4 And the Lord said to him, “This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, ‘I will give it to your offspring.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there.”

5 So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord, 6 and he buried him in the valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth-peor; but no one knows the place of his burial to this day. 7 Moses was 120 years old when he died. His eye was undimmed, and his vigor unabated.

BTW, there are no such things as ghosts.

>>There were hundreds of other Christian writings.<<

By the apostles who Jesus said would be given the Holy Spirit to “bring to their remembrance” and who Paul cautioned to be the only ones to listen to?

“..and who Paul cautioned to be the only ones to listen to? “

So we should NOT pay attention to those odd folks who CLAIM to have special knowledge while they espouse and proclaim falsehoods? Like a certain cynical one?

Oooo, aren’t you clever. In the same passage as the ascension no less and in a crowd of 120. Now there’s a significant contribution and surely one can draw conclusions from that that she was central to the rest of scripture. Good grief.

Of course she is the mother of Jesus but making up stories not in scripture is dangerous. The woman of Revelation 12 is Israel, not Mary.

Wow! Contained in the story of the ascension is Mary along with 120 people and a whole day after Jesus actually left this earth. You got me on that one.

****Now I do not want to be sidetracked by discussion of whether this is the correct interpretation of Scripture. I would like to keep the discussion limited to the topic of this thread: Church infallibility*****

Good luck with that.

These threads are usually a pathetic version of Ground Hog Day in which the same distractions are used especially when one has adequately refuted their errors. They just move on to the next one on the list.

****Even Jesus did that on the road to Emmaus.****

And yet it wasn’t until the breaking of the bread that they realized who was in their midst.

She is also mentioned asthe "elect lady" in 2 John 1:1.

Well you are right...Mary and her brood of children...

2Jn 1:1 The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;

And apparently she moved out of John's house and into her own...

2Jn 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

You pesky Catholics...You don't let a little bible get in the way of your religious fantasies...You just ignore it...
