Tzar fails to note that while leftists may have passed this, it came about because the Victims of decades of abuse demanded that it stop, and the population of Ireland as a whole agreed.

Tzar may reject all those scriptures about God ordaining governments, and the aspects of democracy within Ireland that brought about the response to the populace resulting in this legislation, but that does not make those things not there.

Is it necessary to do this to stop the abuse or just expedient? I argue the latter. Very likely the real perps could be convicted through the same kind of police work that convicts other criminals. Most criminals don’t confess their crimes to priests. My guess is that the truly vicious offenders —priest or not- would simply not confess the act. As for priests who have encountered past offenders, that is ex post facto law, which our constitution forbids for the reason that it is inherently unjust.
