‘Get in Line’ or ‘Resign’ Admiral Tells Military Chaplain
LifeSite News ^ | 6/20/12 | Jean McCarthy

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 20, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Although the U.S. Military fight and die to uphold freedom, high-level military chaplains report they are increasingly being denied freedom of conscience and freedom of speech. There is also alarm about the negative effects on troop morale over the undoing of the 237-years’ practice of providing traditional religious support for U.S. soldiers.

“We were promised that we would see no change - very little change,” says Col. Ron Crews, alluding to a two-star officer’s assurance that the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal would not impede the ministry of military chaplains. That promise, he says, has not been kept.

Col. Crews, executive director of Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty, was speaking at a panel along with military chaplains and religious freedom activists during the 2012 National Religious Freedom Conference in Washington D.C on May 24.

The panelists agreed that the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and other policies have made it difficult, if not a punishable offense, for military chaplains to read passages of Leviticus, pray aloud in the name of God at a soldier’s funeral, or preside over traditional services.

Col. Crews recounted an interchange in 2010 between Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and a military chaplain. While Adm. Mullen was briefing the troops on what the repeal might look like, the chaplain asked if those with “biblical views that homosexuality is a sin [would] still be protected to express those views?”

Adm. Mullen reportedly responded, “Chaplain, if you can’t get in line with this policy, resign your commission.”

I hope all those of conscience resign. The only chaplains the military would have left would be Universalists, Satanists, Wiccans and Muslims.

Two-star officer’s assurance that the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal would not impede the ministry of military chaplains.

Reminiscent of Obama's assurance that under Obamacare, "if you like your medical insurance policy, you can keep it."

That would suit Obama just fine!

And his master, as well...

More suicides for sure!

I hope all those of conscience resign.

And B. Hussein hopes you get your wish as he has a clear agenda in attacking the Christian right in America and kicking God out of our society. I can soon see a day when a conservative chaplain will be discliplined and even court martialed for defending the faith in opposition to the pro-fag policies of the Armed Forces.

Adm. Mike Mullen struck me as an ass kissing political hack the first time I saw him testifying before congress. He's the one who needs to resign his commission.

It is sick enough that we let homos into the military in the first place. We should not need to cater to their every whim.

Remind me again why congress was allowed to rubber stamp this in a December 2010 lame duck session.

How ironic that our men and women have willingly risked everything so we can have, among other things, religious freedom - and the leadership does this.

Where's mccain, powell, and other ‘military experts’ the msm has time for on Sunday mornings? Stand up and be counted, gentlemen...

You can ignore fighting to win, but you can’t ignore the homosexuals? What a warrior......

I've been predicting that the military will be lead against us....

the military upper echelon is nothing more than back biting corporate wheeler dealers...

these admirals and generals smell promotions and smell future careers outside of the military with big contractors....

they follow the company line no matter who gets damaged or destroyed..

Exactly so. And why should he resign! Let the admiral resign!

Fight to the bitter end and make them fire you!

Our line officers have sold out. Therefore, the Chaplain Flag officers need to revolt. Publicly. Now.

Revolt of the Admirals.

History will not look kindly on these men if they avoid their duty to God and our once republic.

"Here I stand. I can do no other."

MartinLuther

Those immortal words spoken by Martin Luther at Wartburg should be displayed upon the desk of every chaplain, and emblazoned on bumper stickers for their vehicles. Stand your ground boys. Stand your ground.

I guess in the military, the anal card trumps the religious liberty card. So much for Christian participation and influence in the US military, which means the US military is headed for serious hell on earth for the limited time that it survives.

I can see how this would fit in God’s plan, though. The US is serving as the military for the UN beast now and not the country of our forefathers and our people. Christians should not be involved in that service to darkness. It must be time to separate the wheat from the tares.

Well... if they remain and are forbidden to minister to the troops as their faith doctrine requires, what exactly is the gain here?

The perverbial “crap will hit the fan” when the SCOTUS says that freedom of conscience under the 1st amendment is being violated by the healthcare mandate. Once the 12 lawsuits against the gob’mint implicate Obama’s illegal laws, it won’t be long before the military are informed they CANNOT mandate that chaplains conform or resign.

I agree whole heartedly with you. This does bring back a sweet memory though. I was talking with a member of the board of directors for my credit union about another member who was up for re-election. His comment was: ####### still thinks he’s a Colonel in the Air Force as he tries to order us around to do whatever he wants done. Maybe in twenty years or so he might realize that he’s a civilian now.

Elections have consequences, that's why. Hell, I knew DADT would be destined for the scrap heap as soon as I saw the election results roll in. I'm only surprised Obama took as long as he did doing it.

Today, openly gay service is the Law of the Land. Admiral Mullen is telling his chaplains they can follow the law or hit the bricks. Again, elections have consequences. Can't believe people here are surprised.

I don’t think the Catholic Chaplains would display Luther’s words. LOL!

Oh...I dunno. If memory serves John Paul II patched things up with the Lutherans some years ago. Everybody gots hugs all around, and agreed: "by faith alone." I got a little carried away by it all, and wound up married to a Lutheran gal myself.

That quote by the way, was Luther speaking at the Diet of Worms, when he was ordered to recant. I mistakenly cited Wartburg.
