O Lord, our Lord, I come before you now, on behalf of my nation, my country. You brought us up from nothing, from a most humble state, dear God. Yet, because we based our government upon your Holy Word, the Bible, you granted us favor. You gave us the Constitution, which guaranteed our freedoms. For years we revered it, treasured it. We knew back then what it meant. We realized its worth.
But now, Lord, little by little we have wandered from the path of truth, the path of freedom. Our Constitution has become dusty and weak. Snarling dogs encircle it, desiring to destroy it completely. They covet the freedoms guaranteed by it – not so they can enjoy those freedoms with their fellow citizens, but so they could destroy those freedoms and abrogate to themselves an unjust rulership over their fellow man.
O dear God, most holy ruler of the universe, first I repent of any sin in my heart and ask that you forgive me and I determine to follow in the right way. I want to do this first of all because you are holy and deserve nothing less from me. I do this because you sent your only son, Jesus, to die as payment for my sins. But I also do this because I want your blessings on our nation. I acknowledge that we cannot survive without your intervention.
O most holy God, I ask you to intervene in our nation as you have done so many time throughout our history. When you allowed us to win the original Revolution, when you brought us through the Civil War, when you cleansed us of the curse of slavery, when you brought us through all the other wars we have fought. Dear God, I ask you to intervene again, even now when the enemy has his foot on our neck, when he has his knife ready to stab the heart of our government: the Constitution.
Stay their hand, we beseech you. I ask that you shine a spotlight on any evil and wickedness in our country, especially any plans to destroy our Constitution, our freedom. Please let the stench of the wickedness make every person who sees it nauseated and repulsed. Cut off the power of wicked men and women and replace them with godly leaders. Please take our hand and guide us back to the path of righteousness.
I especially lift up the elections in November, dear God. Please bring down the haughty, those who aspire to be the gods of this nation and who do not recognize you. Let the light of the righteous shine and grant them your favor, the favor of the King of Glory. Let even those who do not know you vote rightly. Also, we pray that you give our judges wisdom and let them make rightful decisions, even despite any evil inclination they may have. Remove the evil from their posts, O Lord, we ask. Let them be cut off like a fruitless, diseased branch being pruned from the trunk.
We pray all these things in the name of your son, Jesus. And we thank you in advance, Lord, because we have no one to turn to but you, and because we put our trust in you. All praise to you, most Holy One. Halleluia!
