A group of about 150 Mormons quit their church in a mass resignation ceremony in Salt Lake City on Saturday in a rare display of defiance ending decades of disagreement for some over issues ranging from polygamy to gay marriage.
Participants from Utah, Arizona, Idaho and elsewhere gathered in a public park to sign a "Declaration of Independence from Mormonism.""This feels awesome," said Alison Lucas, from West Jordan, Utah, who took part in the rally amid soaring temperatures. "I don't know if I would have had the courage except in a group."
The Utah-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is known for its culture of obedience, and the mass ceremony was a seldom-seen act of collective revolt......

After cracking wise earlier on a different thread on this, when I see pictures of them, I am reminded of how serious all this is.
I hope for the best.
Why is this considered “news”?
(Yes, I am being sarcastic. The MSM is really coming up with some weird ideas as they scrape the bottom the “Eeeeek! Mitt’s a Mormon! barrel.”
They could have just not showed up anymore.
They needed an elaborate ceremony with a news crew because they decided not to be Mormons anymore?
Interestingly, according to this article, most the Mormons didn't resign in disagreement with Church doctrine as suggested in the original AP write-up. Instead, they had a much stronger reason that was beautifully summarized in this passage:
A 40-year-old Salt Lake City resident said she had been "very faithful" her whole life. As she was doing research on the church to help her questioning family members, she said she decided the timeline of events laid out in the Book of Mormon didnt make sense. My guess is that excuses presented in the original article ... i.e. the Church's ban on homosexuality or stern family value discipline ... were cooked by the Mormon Church PR staff in order to hide the real cause for the defections. Her voice cracking, she described the revelation as "very heartbreaking."
"Its just all man-made. Its very disappointing."
I also guess that LDS leadership is shuddering over the mass resignation at this very moment ... despite the Utah desert climate, high summer heat, and thermal insulation inherent with wearing sacred underwear.
When I left the ACLU (as did thousands of others the time), why do you think we did feel the need for some overhyped public ceremony?
Not that it would have been covered, anyway. The vast majority of us were conservatives, disgusted that the ACLU had changed to the dark side on far left causes.
I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of this 150 are libtards, mostly angry because the Mormon church won't get on board with gay marriage or some other pet libtard cause. IOW, refused to change to suit them. Huge difference.

Beats a SECRET ceremony when they BECOME one!
"Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned;
and I will go still further and say, take this revelation, or any other revelation that the Lord has given,
and deny it in your feelings, and I promise that you will be damned.

I suspect this will not be the last. They wanted him they got him and all the publicity it will bring. I thought the LDS PR machine was smarter. maybe greed blinded them.
My only regret is all the division that has occurred among conservatives over this guy and his cult. Liberalism has penetrated Christianity far deeper than I realized...
