Did you know that Atheists have the lowest retention rate of any religious group? Makes sense - as the saying goes, when you believe in nothing, you will believe anything.
Besides, the vast majority of atheists I meet have never really thought through their atheism. Most are just angry at their mommies or daddies or some authority figure somewhere in their childhood.

Agnosticism is logically defensible.
Proclaiming that you KNOW there is no God is not.

I resist labels since their definitions tend to shift under your feet during a discussion, so I find it convenient to divide humanity into two broad camps: “Chaos worshipers” who believe the fundamental governing force of the universe is randomness and “Mind worshipers” who believe the fundamental governing force in the universe is Mind. Each can be as religiously dogmatic as the other, and quite frankly I find the Chaos worshipers who call themselves atheists to be the most religiously dogmatic of the bunch. They tend to writhe in pain if forced to listen to a prayer, their tongues would burst into flame if forced to utter one, and they are whipped into a fanatical frenzy if confronted with a symbol of Mind in public view.
Given that a person's mind is what defines them as being something different then a bag of chemicals, I'm not surprised most eventually turn from the view that the universe is absent Mind.

our actual rate of retention ranks significantly higher than any Protestant denomination That, too, is not surprising. A Catholic gone Protestant will either lose his faith altogether or come back to the Church, but he is very unlikely to stay Protestant. It's a faith without an independent attractiveness.

Atheism has such a low retention rateI'm not sure why I should care. If I were the only atheist in the world, or one of five billion atheists, my opinions about the existence of God would be the same.
