Why are we still Fasting on Tisha B'Av?
Manhigut Yehudit--The Jewish Leadership Movement ^ | 7/26/'12 | Unattributed

"Of course the lamentations and fast for this year will only take place if the Beit Hamikdash is not built by Tisha B'Av", comes the announcement at the end of our prayers. How dismal.

If we were still in exile and it did not depend on our actions, then possibly all we could do would be to roll our eyes heavenward and wait for G-d to bring the Holy Temple down for us out of the skies. But we are here, in Israel; in Jerusalem; on the Temple Mount. We do not have to build the Temple to finish with the lamentations and fast. All we need is to begin to do what we can. To truly connect to the Temple Mount. To serve G-d within reality, at the place where the physical and meta-physical connect.

Doing our part is up to us. It means not running to hide behind various midrashaic explanations, but making a simple decision. Instead, we will sit on the floor and cry like a baby who has already gotten what he asked for, but prefers to keep crying and demanding the same thing.

Perhaps the baby is crying because he didn't really want what he asked for in the first place?

On Sunday, the fast of Tisha B'Av, Moshe Feiglin will be ascending to the Temple Mount. Please join him at 8 a.m. after making all the required halachic preparations. Click here for guidance with the preparations.

It seems that Jews don’t want a temple because of the obligations that would come from it. It would certainly cause a world-view conflict with secular Jews.

The time is coming and is almost here, for all things to be revealed. Those who seek Him will find that His ways are greater than ours; greater than traditions which countermand. All of man, blend a way, several steps beside
“All a man’s ways are pure in his own view, but Y- weighs the spirit.” We will all give account individually, for what _we_ do. We shall not hide behind another.

“Remember the former things long past,
For I am Y-, and there is no other;
I am Y-, and there is no one like Me,
Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things which have not been done,
Saying, ‘My purpose will be established,
And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’”

&

“O Y-, my strength and my stronghold, And my refuge in the day of distress, To You
the nations will come From the ends of the earth and say,
Our fathers have inherited nothing but falsehood,
Futility and things of no profit.”

&

“In order to obey the mitzvot of Y- your Elohim which I am giving you, do not add to what I am saying, and do not subtract from it.”

&

“Hear, Isra’el!” ...
“you are to love Y- with all your heart, all your being and all your resources.”

‘’so that you will keep in mind the predictions of the holy prophets and the command given by Y- and Deliverer through your emissaries.

First, understand this: during the Last Days, scoffers will come, following their own desires and asking, “Where is this promised ‘coming’ of his? For our fathers have died, and everything goes on just as it has since the beginning of creation.” But, wanting so much to be right about this, they overlook the fact that it was by God’s Word that long ago there were heavens, and there was land which arose out of water and existed between the waters, and that by means of these things the world of that time was flooded with water and destroyed. It is by that same Word that the present heavens and earth, having been preserved, are being kept for fire until the Day of Judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed.

Moreover, dear friends, do not ignore this: with Y-, one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day. Y- is not slow in keeping his promise, as some people think of slowness; on the contrary, he is patient with you; for it is not his purpose that anyone should be destroyed, but that everyone should turn from his sins.’’

Shalom

That the building of the 3rd Temple would cause a world-view conflict with secular Jews is without dispute. However, in light of the fact that the Temple cannot be built prior to the coming of the Moschiach, I think that the secularists would be far more accomodating (which is to say, that said coming of the Moschiach would change their world-view, and do so rather dramatically).
