Yes, liberal churches and leaders who opt for the idea of Jesus as social leader of justice movements do not arrive at the same conclusions as other churches or Christians:
Their very premise is different. They remake him in their own image and thus are arguing from a wholly different religious perspective.
Yeah, I left ‘Christianity Lite’ a few decades ago. Now I am not even sure about using a Christ reference wrt the ELCA.
From the article: One of the main points Bishop Kanouse tried to make was his belief that Jesus would not have been inside Chick-fil-A. No, he was not about sit-ins and causes.

I seem to recall Jesus protesting certain Temple activities by physically attacking the money changers’ tables. I’d say Jesus was “about” causes, most importantly the cause of repentance of sins and the worship of the true God.
Unfortunately for ECLA, the Bible says what it says. There is no question that there is no such thing as ‘Gay Marriage’. This bozo bishop can say anything he wants, but it has no relevance when it comes to the truth. He is using the opportunity to advance his twisted religion he thinks. What he has done is relegate it a little more into obscurity.
The ELCA should lose their tax exempt status. They are not a church since they don’t believe in God. They are a political advocacy group and should be taxed accordingly.
The bishop? does not speak as a Christian/follower of Christ , but as a tare—as a seed of the evil one planted in the wheat field. He appears as that one spoken of in John 8:44. And will either repent or die in his sins.
So, has Bishop Kanouse also taken time to criticize Martin Luther King and Gandhi?
* as of August 19, AD 2009, a liberal protestant SECT, not part of the holy, catholic and apostolic CHURCH.
Be rooted in Christ!
If the Response is approved by the synod's convention in 2013, the LCMS officially would no longer consider the ELCA (or XXXA) to be a Christian church body (that's what apostasy means), although there may be erring Christians still attending XXXA gatherings. XXXA baptisms would be considered as sacramentally worthless as faux-baptisms done by Mormons.
As the 2009 XXXA Church Wide Assembly wrapped up their meeting which had approved ordaining active homosexuals two days earlier, on Friday, August 21, 2009, Rev. Matthew Harrison, now LCMS President and a member of the Commission issuing the Response, answered a question on Issues, Etc. (at 9:16) from the host, Rev. Todd Wilken:
Wilken: Is apostasy too strong a word to describe what weve watched over the last better part of the decade that culminates this afternoon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America?
Harrison: No, it is apostasy. Theres no way around it. It gives me great pain to say that, but theres no other word for it.
I guess we Christian conservatives will have to quit bullying the owners and workers of businesses. - - - Oh wait, those were liberals.
Filth...glad to longer be a part of that apostasy.
make that NO LONGER
Well, Kevey, it’s sad you’re such a wimp that someone going to a restaurant makes you feel “bullied”. Man up, boy.
Joyous Feast! (Today is the Great Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos).
A Christian Brother’s business was threatened by machine politicians and politically correct activists, just because he stood up for God’s truth. The livelihoods of thousands of his employees were also threatened. The good and charitable work (including for endangered children) that the Brother’s foundation does was also threatened.
Tens of thousands of Christian Brothers and Sisters came out to support their Brother and his business by patronizing it and by eating chicken. No placards, no shouted slogans, just ordering and eating chicken.
How is that “bigotry” and “bullying”? C’mon, liberals, cut the nonsense!!!!
As for the ELCA, its message is the very same as that of a liberal social service organization or a union. It is NOT a Church, and its “sacraments” are worthless!
If ELCA members want to hear the Word of Christ and to receive valid and potent Sacraments, they need to look elsewhere!!!!
Let's not forget Jesus never said anything about sex with animals either.< sarc>
That's what happens when prople focus on the red letter version.
Fact is Jesus mentioned Homosexuality in both the OT and NT. It's a little thing we call the Trinity and the idea that all Scripture is inspired.
