SAN DIEGO – The Roman Catholic archbishop-elect of San Francisco was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence, San Diego police said Monday.
The Rev. Salvatore Cordileone was taken into custody after being stopped early Saturday at a police checkpoint near the San Diego State University campus, said Detective Gary Hassen, a police spokesman. He declined to comment on whether Cordileone took a sobriety test or reveal his blood-alcohol content.
The stop was made at 12:26 a.m. on the outskirts of the campus, an area populated by college housing, modest restaurants and low-slung apartment buildings.
There was no record of Cordileone being in custody on Monday. The San Diego city attorney's office, which prosecutes misdemeanor DUI offenses, said it had not received a report on the arrest.
The San Francisco archdiocese did not immediately respond to phone and email messages seeking comment.
Cordileone is a 56-year-old native of San Diego, where he was raised and ordained as a priest in 1982. In July, Pope Benedict XVI selected him to replace Archbishop George Niederauer, who is retiring in October. Cordileone was most recently bishop of Oakland and several years ago, he was an auxiliary bishop in San Diego.

In those days, labor was of the George Meany variety. He attended Mass and Communion every day of his life and refused endorsement of Comrade George McGovern and encouraged unions, just that once, to endorse Nixon though he would not. Those unions were private sector for the most part. Today, labor is run by the very different likes of Richard Trumka. It is a different world but that has not yet occurred to many of my co-religionists.
6. We Catholics do have a social hair trigger in our DNA but an increasing number of us are belatedly willing to concede that we have been well treated in what has always been the essentially Protestant USA.
7. Have you ever seen a comment from me (in recent years at least) on threads dealing with Reformed clergy (especially conservatively inclined ones) in embarrassing circumstances? It is simply none of my business. I privately encourage my Catholic friends that it is none of theirs either. If you are touchy about this sort of thing, so are many of us.

You also, IIRC, make the same mistake as the LSM in not distinguishing between apostates brought up to be Catholic (however poorly catechized) and those of us who attend Mass and receive the sacrament of Holy Eucharist at least weekly. The latter group is a lot more Republican and conservative group than you imagine but still equipped with a hair trigger.
All that, for what, I don’t know.
You seem to be interested in something from some other thread, some baggage that you drag around about individual posters, even though freerepublic asks members not to do that.
The Vatican is FINALLY getting about cleaning out the bishops of California and replacing them with Catholics. Gomez replaced Mahoney in Los Angeles and first Vigneron and then Cordileone at Oakland and now Cordileone at San Fransicko. I imagine as with Texas and Illinois and Wisconsin and other troubled areas, the process will continue nationally until Catholicism is restored nationally.

I thought the number of jokes Leno told about abusive priests for years after the abuse scandal abated bordered on anti-Catholicism, there were so many for so long.

Because Satan, inspiring his foot soldiers in the media, knows who his true enemy is, the Church founded by Christ,the Catholic Church. But Christ will never let the Gates of Hell prevail against His Church.

While driving my mother home, I passed through a DUI checkpoint the police had set up near the SDSU campus before I reached her home, and was found to be over the California legal blood alcohol level.

So, it wasn’t because of any erratic driving. He has humbly apologized and been honest. Keep him in your prayers because I think he is going to be a wonderful influence.

Did you follow the links? My "looked promising" comment was a reference to posts offered by Catholics on this 2005 thread. Niederauer's appointment didn't look so promising to me (or you, apparently), but I'm not trying to explain or justify others' comments made back in 2005. I'm just tossing them out for comparison to this years' comments about Cordileone.
I notice that you stalk me with personal attacks, I can only guess that my political information about elections and voting bothers you.
