The senile Father is in nursing home or similar facility of some sort. He is incapable of coming to his own defense so he is a prime target to manipulate.
No this smear campaign is orchestrated by media to sink it’s targets.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you posted this before you read post #55. It was no "smear campaign". The man said what they said he did and both he and his organization tried to clean up the mess afterward. There were no indications that he had been intentionally misquoted or that there were ulterior motives to smear him and the Catholic Church. Unfortunately, the Catholic Church does a pretty good job of setting up their own targets to be sunk. Men of God are supposed to be "above reproach".
