Psalm 100--A Personal Running Commentary [Vanity]

Posted on 09/16/2012 10:53:55 AM PDT by Hebrews 11:6

Psalm 100 (NIV)

1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

The Holy Spirit prompted me to meditate upon this psalm and to amplify upon it, as below. I thought I'd share the result in the hope it blesses others or, better yet, prompts them to their own spiritual exercises.

1 Shout for joy—not a golf clap, but the wholeheartedly joyful shout I make when my team scores the championship-winning run/touchdown/basket—or my political opponent officially concedes defeat!
to the LORD—to my LORD, to my God
all the earth—this means me, and it also means finding ways to help my brothers around the earth come to know and love my LORD, to make Him their LORD

2 Worship the LORD—worship my LORD, as my LORD
with gladness—recognize and remember why He makes me glad, and be glad!
come before him—enter into His presence
with joyful songs—sing some right now!

3 Know—beyond doubt, fully
that the LORD is God—He is the One and Only
It is he who made us—evolution didn’t make us, our God did
and we are his—the created belong to their Creator
we are his people—we are His Church
the sheep of his pasture—He is our Good Shepherd

4 Enter his gates—we may enter boldly, on the basis of the blood of Jesus
with thanksgiving—Thank You for becoming our Entryway!
and his courts with praise—Praise You!
give thanks to him—Thank you Lord Jesus!
and praise his name—All praise to You, "Yahweh Saves"!

5 For the LORD is good—Lord, You are holy and merciful: You are love!
and his love endures forever—I need never worry that Your love will diminish

his faithfulness continues through all generations—Yesterday, today and tomorrow!

Thanks for posting. I think analyzing scripture like you do is something we could all benefit from. There are the moments of silence when we reflect on the words of God, where we are to be more active by being stlll and reflect on the words in our own lives.

I don’t think I have scriptural warrant for saying this, but I do suspect that one of our activities during our eternity may be fully appreciating every word of Scripture. Quite aside from the present benefits from doing so, why not get a head-start?
