Victorian Catholic Church reveals 620 abuse cases
The Australian ^ | 9/22/2012

The Catholic Church in Victoria has revealed that at least 620 children have been abused by its clergy since the 1930s, sparking a fresh call for an independent inquiry into sex abuse.

The Catholic Church in Victoria revealed the number in a submission to a state parliamentary hearing on Friday but said the instances of abuse reported had fallen dramatically from the "appalling" numbers of the 1960s and 1970s.

i really fail to see your point in posting this.
records clearly show, that the problems have been strongly addressed.
the current rates of abuse in the Catholic church,
are the lowest of ANY church in the world.
...and if you think other churches don’t cover theirs up,
EXACTLY as even the Boy Scouts did,
then there is no point in discussion.
-
when our society is becoming increasingly immoral,
with same-sex marriage and abortion condoned,
and even supported financially by the USA Government,
WHY do you wish to attack the largest Church in the USA,
which is on the frontlines, against such sin?
-
the public schools, have an abuse rate, of over 100 times,
of ANY Church. And the Catholic church is among the lowest.
...yet you are silent about those abused kids.
-
Christians girls are kidnapped and raped and forced to convert and marry, in Muslim countries.
...yet THIS is what you think Jesus wishes you,
to focus on ? a problem that has been almost eradicated?
-
...if we don’t start standing with fellow christians,
then our grandchildren WILL speak Arabic.
...as almost happened at the Gates of Vienna...
we almost lost Christianity then.
your priorities, are severely askew...

perhaps you are alarmed, at the HUGE number of rapes,
in US military?
...ignoring that the RATE is low, in such a large organization.
-
it is also interesting, that in 2011, more MEN are raped in the military, than women !
-
2% of gay men, are doing MORE rapes, than the 98% of straight men!
-
SAME in the Catholic church. almost ALL the child abuse, is committed by GAY men.
(so the tired argument, about letting Priests marry,
is ridiculously stupid.)
-
this isn’t a military problem. or a church problem.
or a school problem.
it is a GAY MEN problem.
they commit sexual crimes, at a rate of 1000% higher,
than straight men.
the solution, is to KEEP THEM AWAY FROM CHILDREN,
for starters.
...how about we focus on the ROOT CAUSE,
instead of a cheap way to attack the church
that stands against homosexual sin.
(unlike churches like the Evangelical Lutheran Church.)
???

The article is recent, credible and worthy of discussion.

I never cease to be amazed by FRoman Catholics who wish to squelch all discussion on the issue of systemic child sex abuse in their church. It’s that same MO that got them into the mess.

If that doesn’t work they blame everyone else and proclaim, “hey, don’t blame us, everyone rapes children!”

The coverup and lack of recognition for what occurred is worse than the abuse.

None of these figures are part of the John Jay report. The abuse runs literally into the hundreds of thousands of children.

Monsignor Cristobal Garcia oversees about 3 million Catholics in the Philippines.

While admitting having sex with two teen aged boys he claims they “seduced” him. His interests aren't just in rape, he also explains how to smuggle illegal ivory which he collects.

Even National Geographic notices but maybe it's not available in Rome.

“It happens in church, public schools and everywhere else”

And it happens alot more frequently public schools, day care centers, nursing homes, etc.

And once again the vast majority of sex abuse cases are homosexual priests who CAN NOT control their sexual urges. And most of the cases are with teenage boys, not small children. This abuse from homosexual men is a direct result of the relaxing of clergy requirements during the “sexual revolution” of the 60s and 70s. They should have never allowed men with strong homosexual tendencies to become priests, because without a doubt the majority of homosexual men can not control their sexual urges. There has never been a sex abuse problem in the Catholic Church, but there has been a homosexual problem in the Church. The way to stop the problem is to kick them out of the priesthood when the offense occurs. No second chances. Homosexuals are not normal men. And that’s the truth.

>>>i really fail to see your point in posting this.<<<

I can say the same of you. Pressuring someone to censor themselves when posting something critical of Catholicism is immediately reminiscent of the behavior of the muslims.

While the RCC is to be commended for its recent honesty in these matters it is still not going to be immediately absolved for systematically covering up sexual abuse up until recent days.

And the more people like you complain about posts like this the more I wonder what else you must be hiding.

This is stupid... 600 cases in almost a century...

Coverups like what happened back then was the norm in every part of our societies due to the sigma attached. Should we blame the various states for abuses happening in juvenile prisons, orphanages etc..?

When you bring up many decades worth of abuses it sounds like abuse is really common. But that’s just because it is only the Catholic Church that is attacked in this way. What would the numbers look like if you did a similar statistic for schools for instance..?

I don’t understand how Catholics came to think that Priests are just like one of the many millions of regular people that get work as school teachers, even I was a teacher in the military.
