Professors Lobby Notre Dame on Sexual Orientation with Full-Page Ad
The Cardinal Newman Society ^ | 9/26/12 | Matthew Archbold

Earlier this year, a group of University of Notre Dame faculty and staff drafted a letter in support of the “LGBTQ community” at Notre Dame, after the University announced it would not add sexual orientation to its nondiscrimination clause despite pressure from some student groups and faculty.

Now, a petition signed by 366 Notre Dame faculty, administration and staff was published yesterday in the campus newspaper as a full page ad urging the university to add sexual orientation to its nondiscrimination clause.

The letter said, in part:

“We value the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning members of our community exactly as we do all those who are part of the Notre Dame family. As faculty and staff, we affirm that our offices and classrooms will be safe and open spaces, where anti-LGBTQ discrimination, harassment, or violence will not be tolerated… We applaud the recent efforts of Notre Dame to create a more welcoming and safe environment for all. We encourage the University to continue its progress by joining with the City of South Bend, our sister college St. Mary’s, and other Catholic colleges and institutions across the country to make the protection, recognition, and equal treatment of the LGBTQ members of our family an official part of University policy.”

“Questioning members”? I thought at first that the Q stood for something else. So someone can claim discrimination now for having questions? No, just certain types of questions, it appears.

If I were running Notre Dame I would place an ad in the next edition saying that Notre dame was looking for 366 new members of staff and faculty and that these should start looking for a new job.

Is Notre dame still a catholic University?

It is shameful that teachers and staff at a college named after Our Blessed Mother are trying to endorse homosexuality.

Please God help Catholics to withdraw support from this college and rename it. It is not a fit place to be named Notre Dame.

Catholics are becoming more liberal...I went to a Catholic grade school (1-8 th grade)and the Priest and nuns were preaching "Social Justice" back in the 1990's when I was enrolled. They are against abortion but pretty much for anything else liberal...and 99% sure my priest is gay.(srs)

The problem is not intolerance. If ND were intolerant, they would not be there already. The problem is that they define any theological, moral, spiritual or health-related concern or objection to gay behavior as egregious discrimination and start suing.

Also, they define tolerance as the right and obligation to indoctrinate, harass or seduce children or vulnerable adults into accepting their fetishes. It's like the sharia definition of peace: which is when everyone professes islam as the true religion.

Considering that PLANNED PARENTHOOD is an abortion mill, anything goes in the War of Words against America.

Notre Dame needs some competition that presents a refreshing contrast, but it still big, important, and Catholic.

If only Texas A&M were Catholic.

I would love to send my kids to a Catholic college, but there’s no way I’d spend big bucks for this nonsense. You can get the same at a public university, for less money.

Things have sure changed since my friend taught there and resigned in 1961 over a dispute regarding nude art.

Here is a somewhat recent article from that same campus paper describing my friend's scandal and a photo of the ceramic mural that he created.

Can’t they just use the “Q” instead of all those other letters?

I’ve heard good things about Steubenville.

No engineering program. That’s a deal killer for my son but not my daughter.

I’ve looked at lots of Catholic colleges and few offer engineering. That’s quite a shame. Catholic colleges tend to cover healthcare majors, liberal arts and education really well. But it also can lead to a lop-sided student body— too many girls, not enough boys.

Considering that engineers are likely to make decent money and contribute to the alumni fund, one would think more colleges would offer that major.

At this point, I think the decision for who to lay off has become abundantly clear. Tight budgets and all.

Seriously, if a school is a Catholic school, it is foolish indeed to employ or sponsor those opposed to Catholicism. The very essence of religion is that its doctrines and tenets are not debatable.

So at what point does the church intervene? Does it either say that Notre Dame is no longer a Catholic school, so it is not subject to the rules of the Catholic church; or does it return the school to conformity with its teachings?

I wouldn’t send a member of my family to Notre Dame if the tuition were free.

The Bishops got themselves into this mess by praising Obma and his Socialist policies, then they got this Obamacare insurance thing stuffed up their ass.

The Bishops want the illegals in here so they can fill their pews with Catholic Hispanics, and they want Socialism for the rst of us.

The Catholic Churh is dying on it’s feet IMO, and needs to rethink it’s future. Keep it’s traditional Church teachings and stop meddling Socialism.

I might be wrong, but I see less and less people in the pews each Sunady and many of my friends are elaving to join Non-Sectarian Church’s. The Church’s discipline held them together for many years, then along came John Paul and let up on them and the whole thing went caflooie.

As for Homosexual Priests. I have no answer. The Church was wrong to hide them and still wrong not to admit they are still hiding them. The Church has lost the trust of its congregants.
