Where President Romney Would Go to Church
Time magazine ^ | September 27, 2012 | Elizabeth Dias

Bishop Robert Nelson of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ in Chevy Chase, MD, isn’t exactly sure how to handle the casserole question. You see, the Mormon church is run by volunteers, and every member has a job: teaching Sunday school, managing church finances, organizing community food drives, or serving in the tutoring program. So when I asked Bishop Nelson who in his congregation would bring a casserole to Ann Romney if she were to get the flu while her husband was President of the United States, he paused and chuckled. “I can imagine wanting to bring the casserole, but then you have to go through security, and at some point you go, the casserole just isn’t worth it. Call for carry out.”

The casserole question is one of many puzzlers Mitt Romney’s presidential run poses for Nelson’s congregation on the northern border of the District of Columbia. Mormons attend church based on their addresses—and 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is assigned to Nelson’s parish, or ward. “When we get new members in from any walk of life and I sit down and talk with them: where are you at, what are your needs, how can this church help you, how can you help the church,” explains Nelson. “It is that same discussion—it’s just with somebody who is the President of the free world, so I am sure there are nuances that will be unique.”

New faces are by no means rare to the Third Ward–the church averages 25 new converts a year, making it the Mormon church’ s highest baptizing ward in the area. Some 250 people attend gatherings every Sunday, and a total of 650 people from nearly two dozen countries are on the membership roll. Services are warm and people are friendly...

What I find most surprising is that a positive article of this type even makes it into Time magazine.

Do they just want it for cover to show they are being fair?

Did it get past the censors in their newsroom?

Or, do they just want to make sure they have a place to sit in the White House news room?

At least Time Magazine is consistent - didn’t they run an article asking where Obama was going to worship Black Liberation Theology 6 weeks before the election. They didn’t???? :)

I wasn’t a Romney supporter during the primaries, but by all accounts he’s been a righteous member of his church. Every LDS person I’ve ever worked with has been righteous. The contrast to Obama and his faith (whatever the heck it is!) is remarkable, yet this article seems designed to advance the Obama-friendly meme that Mormons are weird. NOBODY is weirder than Obama, but we’re supposed to pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Mitt is a powerful leader within an anti-Christian cult, he is very religious in regards to being a Mormon, both he and Harry Reid are Temple Mormons, the holy of holys among Mormons, and both men are slated to become Gods.

Mitt first asked permission of his Holy Prophet, before he would start running for president, that was given in a private meeting in 2005.

We know that Mitt is a temple Mormon, that means that he can attend and participate in the temples, unlike regular Mormons, who are forbidden entrance or even knowledge of the secret ceremonies carried on inside those “churches” as this thread seems to be calling them.

Secret Service is not allowed into the temples unless they too, are temple Mormons, and of course, all things inside, are secret to all humans who are not temple qualified, even if there is a temple qualified reporter, he is forbidden to share the secrets of the Mormon temple and anything that might be done in there.

Even Ann Romney’s parents and regular Mormons, were forbidden to witness her temple marriage to Mitt Romney.

Evidently you don’t read posts and respond to the post itself.

Yes, you’ve told us all that before. Were you busy with something else? I worry when you don’t jump right on an LDS or Romney thread within seconds of it being posted. Hope everything is alright.

A total disregard for the information, and you only launch a personal attack.

This is a thread about candidate Romney’s religion, not a thread to personally attack freepers who know something about it.

If it was a “private meeting” how do you know about it?

What personal attack was that? I asked after your health and well-being.

Not sure I buy it. He may have just done some cultural things, but who knows if he even believes in God.

Correct...Romney is not an orthodox christian.

However he together with a hopefully GOP Congress will pass legislation good for us and freedom's cause. The alternative is unthinkable.

We do have freedom of religion in the US. Romney worked hard for the nomination and now we hope for good leadership in the area of legislation.

And along the way we can pray that he and millions of Mormons discover the truth about Christ.

We know about it because a Mormon publication reported on it in 2005, telling us that he entered into the meeting with the Prophet, and that the Prophet gave his approval, we don’t know what else was discussed in the meeting.

Mitt is a very powerful, and dedicated Mormon.

What we really need in a president is a guy who is some kind of nobody, a schmuck in his denomination who has never made an effort to help other people or give millions to charity, or better yet, an Islamist or Atheist. That’s the ticket!!

Romney is not only not an Orthodox Christian, he isn’t a Christian at all, that is the conclusion of all Christian denominations the Orthodox, the Protestants, the Roman Catholic church all agree that Mormonism is a polytheistic religion that is definitely not Christian, but an entirely created religion by Joseph Smith.

As you can see from this thread, part of the challenge of their Bishop running for president, is that many are now trying to introduce Mormonism as a Christian denomination and to conceal it’s reputation as a bizarre, anti-Christian cult.

This is a great hope of the Prophet, and the council of 70, that conservatives will mainstream Mormonism, in the name of Mitt Romney, republican president.

Agree with you about Mormon theology.

My point still stands.

As long as the Christian confusion is dropped, then we can both stand on our points, they don’t contradict each other.
