Can't speak for "everyone", but I have a HUGE problem with people bending down and kissing the Popes ring. I have a HUGE problem with people bending down and praying to statues....or paintings.

I have a huge problem with Olympic champions kissing their medals, but that doesn’t make it worship of the object. It’s just a symbolic tradition expressing a feeling.

I kneel and pray before a statue of Mary, a priest, my bed, some candles, and lots of other things, but that doesn’t mean I’m worshiping any of those things.

(I might even pray before the scene of a horrible accident, or when visiting a concentration camp site, but I’m certainly not worshiping either of those things either.)

Sometimes, when I pray, I’ll ask a deceased relative to pray for me. Or I might ask a saint or the Blessed Virgin to pray for me to the Lord our God. But I’m not worshiping grandma or Mary.
