"Natural Law has described Purgatory in a way that implies no one really knows for sure what it is and, at best, it is a guess whether it even is a place or just a state of mind, whether it is instantaneous or can last thousands of years, whether it is physical agony or mental anguish. How's that for defining a dogma for you guys?"

I have provided an example of a mystery. For everyone else who isn't as blessed as you in already understanding everything about Catholicism, a mystery is a truth whose existence or possibility could not be discovered by a creature, and whose essence can be expressed or captures by the finite mind only in terms of analogy. Scripture mentions mysteries over two dozen times.

Peace be with you.

Were non-Catholic churches and denominations relying on Scripture and the Holy Spirit when they taught contraception was a sin, or were they wrong then and right now that they teach the exact opposite?

How about teaching that sterilizing yourself was a sin which now isn't even mentioned much less preached against in the overwhelming majority of non-Catholic Churches?

Then there's the fact that every Protestant denomination and backwoods independent church once taught that divorce was a sin but now have reversed themselves.

What about when they all taught that tattoos were a sin and now don't care?

There are a great many more examples like the above. Those who claim the authority to interpret Scripture without the guidance of the Church Christ Himself started are very much blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

No one can deny that fact since the Holy Spirit is the same yesterday, today, and forever, yet non-Catholics who rely on Self-Alone claim the Holy Spirit reverses what is the Truth to accommodate their going along to get along. Every argument such folks make to the contrary is nothing but another rationalization for keeping their Self in charge rather than honestly surrendering to Christ. As such, their arguments are all based on what appeals to itching ears, not on Scripture.

To most non-Catholics and a great many Catholics as well, what passes for Christianity in this country is the philosophy of, "I'm Ok, You're Ok" implemented with the doctrine of going along to get along. Otherwise, for example, there would be thousands of suits against the HHS mandate rather than the few that there are. And that's just one example of how the majority of those who claim to be Christian accept and adapt to whichever way the wind blows.

What we have is the heresy of modernism.

Peace be with you
