“Catholics can reject what he says. We are not bound by his statements any more than Protestants are bound to accept Al Sharptons views on abortion.”
Unlike the Catholic church, Protestants don’t have a singular hierarchy that could directly influence Sharpton.
The Catholic church is free, in fact, obligated to distance the Church from this guy (he IS a Cardinal) on behalf of all Catholics if they disagree with him even if it wasn’t stated in an official capacity. They have a wide range of options. The question is, will they avail themselves of any of the options they have under their established bureaucracy?
I don’t know what this guys problem is, but it’s clear that of the reasonable possibilities, none of them are good.
None of them are good for the Catholic church either, especially if they don’t dispose of him, bureaucratically speaking, for the idiot he has been revealed to be, if this report is true.
The only problem is that this never happened! Cardinal Ravisi never said it.quote a militantly anti-Catholic article misquoting the Cardinal's introduction to Pope Benedict's third volume on Jesus of Nazareth. In his remarks the Cardinal mentioned a cycle of violence in the middle east dating back thousands of years and cited Herrod's killing of the innocent among several examples.
I think it would take more than a dumb opinion to have a Cardinal removed from office. I think it is a little like a US supreme court appointment in that respect.
A thousand dumb opinions do not add up to 1 heresy - without the presence of crime or heresy I see nothing happening.
