Their producer George Martin did so much for them it isn’t funny. All anybody has to do is listen to their Decca audition tapes, they were terrible even for that time.

And then they meet Martin and suddenly *poof* like magic they are brilliant, a whole new group, total geniuses. yeah OK. Has it ever occurred to anyone there is a reason Paul McCartney hasn’t released one single solitary good song in 40 plus years? I did enjoy the McCartney albums of the 70s—McCartney, Ram, Band on the Run—which might fall within your time range. Also, rock and roll is a young man’s game. People tend to grow out of it. Which doesn’t explain why he didn’t age into a Cole Porter, but, hey, I was never on board with the genius label.
It is surprising his God awful are most acts away from the studio and reverb, session musicians, double tracking vocals, autotune (which sounds awful on its own but can be used so as you aren’t assailed by it, though pop in an older song and you’ll be struck by its absence), etc. There are a few exceptions, and they are the few genuinely talented singers—I don’t know, say Linda Ronstadt—and instrunentalists—say the guys from Rush or Eddie Van Halen.
