American Atheists' Billboard Calls for Christmas Minus "Myth" of Christ
Christian Post ^ | 12-11-12 | Stoyan Zaimov

"We know that a large population of 'Christians' are actually atheists who feel trapped in their family's religion. If you know god is a myth, you do not have to lie and call yourself 'Christian' in order to have a festive holiday season. You can be merry without the myth, and indeed, you should," said David Silverman, President of American Atheists.

Atheism is the religion based on the belief that this universe we perceive with five limited senses is all that “exists”, consciousness is the product of a three pound ball of gelatinous goop, and matter is all truly tangible, a hundred years of quantum physics and vast human experience to the contrary be damned (pun intended). What’s appalling is the lack of humility or a sense of wonder in the face of evident infinity.

What’s a guy by the name of “David Silverman” got to do with Christmas, anyhow?

Atheism: the strange certitude that the ground of being is not enough like a person or mind to be called “God”. (A very strange creed when one thinks about it at any length, particularly when its adherents aver that they believe only what they can prove from experience and observation. What precisely in our experience or in observation of the world makes them believe that the ground of being is not person-like or mind-like? The very intelligibility of the material world which underlies the science modern atheists so revere suggests some kinship between the ground of being and the human mind — the phrase “image and likeness” springs to mind.)

What, however, is saddest about turn of the 21st century atheists is the debased mode of thinking that fancies that a “myth” is simply a falsehood. The remake that J.R.R. Tolkien made about the Gospel to C.S. Lewis that was crucial to the latter’s conversion to Christianity: “It’s a myth and it’s true” makes no sense to them. They are the men without chests Lewis warned us about.

He tends to make the rounds this time of year, this year apparently in defense of the blasphemous Times Square Billboard. Can you imagine if Lamar Advertising put up such a billboard trashing Allah or Muhammed? Why is it Christians are an acceptable target?

David Silverman

This is the guy who was on O'Reilly a few weeks ago talking about Christmas.

I wonder what he thinks of the appropriateness of the Washington National Cathedral being designated by Congress as the "National House of Prayer?"

Well, I wouldn’t be up for raising that sort of money for a test. But perhaps the ACLJ or similar might like to try for a test case.

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”

This article indicates the Commies are still hard at work.

>> Oh but they do believe in G_d.

It’s a bit of a paradox, but for there to be any truth in atheism, the atheist must be God all knowing.

If you take Christ out of Christmas (Christ Mass) you are left with nothing. Atheists shouldn’t get 12/25 off with pay any more. No more holidays (Holy Days) for them.

he's wrong. Many may be agnostics or "going with the flow", but there are very few true atheists. It's not in human nature to truly say there is no god or gods, no force. Atheists will replace worship of God with following something else - can be ardent nationalists or shoppers or workaholics -- humans need something to believe in

sorry, Christmas is not a “myth”. Christ was born. That’s a fact. The date may differ but the fact of His birth does not.

There is no "pagan origin of Christmas" -- various activities done in the western world may be co-opted from local cultures such as the yule-tide log and Christmas tree, but that does not mean there is a "pagan origin of Christmas" Christians celebrated the birth of their savior from the beginning, but that was (and IS) not as important in The Church as His one-time sacrifice for us.

Talking about trees etc. forget that ancient Christians in India (converted by St. Thomas the apostle) or in Persia and east (converted by St. Bartholomew) did not have these trappings but still celebrated Christ's birth.

I don’t understand this boobs logic. If he doesn’t want to celebrate Christ’s birth, that’s his problem. he can just celebrate shopping day. Why spoil it for the rest of the folks?

Atheists are not Christians and do not get to redefine other people’s cultures. These people are anti-American freedom bigotpigs born of the Left’s Soviet past.

Dummy LIEbertarians have been sucked in by their redefination of the constitution and anti-Christian ideology.

Thank you for the links. I firmly believe there is a war against Christianity, by militant atheists. They seem to be winning a lot of battles. That’s what makes them scary. I can see the persecution of Christians getting bad in this country.

You’re welcome. I generally attribute most of what happens in the culture wars and politics to actions by the Comintern, which I do not believe really disbanded. Too many things seem to come together for the left too conveniently. A few years ago I would have dismissed my thoughts as nuts....but...
