The movement from a lie to oneself to the institutionalization of a lie, is to lay the foundation for the destruction of truth, a project that can never really succeed. This only results in self-destruction.
As evidenced by the collapse of previous 'glorious' empires, such as the Roman and Greek. Santayana reminds us of this: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Better yet, we find the same admonition in Scripture:
What has been, that will be; what has been done, that will be done. Nothing is new under the sun. Even the thing of which we say, "See, this is new!" has already existed in the ages that preceded us.
