But the Bible doesn't.
2. Salutations, from Babylon St. Peters First Epistle was written almost undoubtedly from Rome, since the salutation at the end reads: The church that is in Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you: and so doth my son Mark (5:13). Babylon must here be identified with the Roman capital; since Babylon on the Euphrates, which lay in ruins, or New Babylon (Seleucia) on the Tigris, or the Egyptian Babylon near Memphis, or Jerusalem cannot be meant, the reference must be to Rome, the only city which is called Babylon elsewhere in ancient Christian literature (Revelation 17:5; 18:10; Oracula Sibyl., V, verses 143 and 159, ed. Geffcken, Leipzig, 1902, 111).
Well, isn't that interesting now. Here we have it on Catholic authority that Babylon in Scripture DOES after all, mean Rome.
I'll keep that in mind next time I read the book of Revelation.
Outside of the questionable interpretation of this guy that Babylon = Rome, therefore Peter was in Rome, there is not one scrap of evidence from Scripture that Peter was ever there.
It's all the *church fathers*, historical record of which there is no way of verifying any of it, and *tradition*.
Circumstantial evidence outside of Scripture is simply circumstantial evidence and proves nothing.
I thought the authority of Christianity was centered on Jesus.
I don’t believe I can solve the reformation issues on apolitical forum. But, for heaven’s sake, I you Catholics believe in the authority of scripture, why do you vote for a man and a party that believes in infanticide, homosexual marriage, booing and voting against God at their political convention. We. of orthodox and historical faith, must join politically to eradicate this abomination we call the Democratic Party!
My son just asked a Catholic girl to marry him and another son of mine is dating a Catholic girl. I’m sure glad that said Catholic girls no nothing of the Pope or Mary heresies of the RCC. I guess they are Catholic in name only. I hope it doesn’t become an issue later.
It is so very sad to see when Christians fight eatch other. This gives those who are so oppose to those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior no matter what the Christian faith community “ammo” to justify their attacks.
Does not scripture call us to love one another?
Please see post number 147. Thank-you.
Read Matthew 7:15: Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheeps clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”
These were the words of Christ. The fruit of the RCC has not always been “good”. The RCC ‘tree’ has born much ‘bad fruit’ throughout its history; and NO ONE can deny that.
For this reason, my faith is is Jesus Christ, and no other man or organization.
One can believe all the spin from Rome; or one can merely read the Bible.
Is Peter the 'rock'?
As you can see, Simon was already known as 'Peter'
BEFORE the following verses came along.....
NIV 1 Corinthians 10:4
and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. NIV Luke 6:48
He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. NIV Romans 9:33
As it is written: "See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame." NIV 1 Peter 2:4-8
4. As you come to him, the living Stone--rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him-- 5. you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6. For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 7. Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone, " 8. and, "A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall." They stumble because they disobey the message--which is also what they were destined for. But, since there WAS no NT at the time Christ spoke to Peter, just what DID Peter and the rest of the Disciples know about ROCKS??? NIV Genesis 49:24-25 24. But his bow remained steady, his strong arms stayed limber, because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel, 25. because of your father's God, who helps you, because of the Almighty, who blesses you with blessings of the heavens above, blessings of the deep that lies below, blessings of the breast and womb. NIV Numbers 20:8

"There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God. NIV 2 Samuel 22:2-3

For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? NIV 2 Samuel 22:47
"The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God, the Rock, my Savior! NIV 2 Samuel 23:3-4
3. The God of Israel spoke, the Rock of Israel said to me: `When one rules over men in righteousness, when he rules in the fear of God, 4. he is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain that brings the grass from the earth.' NIV Psalms 18:2
The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. NIV Psalms 18:31

NIV Habakkuk 1:12 O LORD, are you not from everlasting? My God, my Holy One, we will not die. O LORD, you have appointed them to execute judgment; O Rock, you have ordained them to punish. |
And now you know the Biblical position!
Fixed it ...
I keep seeing this article popping up in the feed- and I have got to comment. Can’t hold it in anymore. :)
Jesus is the word of God. He is the daily bread and the manna. Jesus is the light of the world. Without Jesus, we do not get the comforter. We need the Holy Spirit to be born again, and to enter into fellowship with God, and to be made righteous enough to dwell in paradise with our Father.
I pray that all believers, take the time to read the Bible, to invite the Holy Spirit, and to pray.
If, as this article states, Christianity is based on the writings of Paul, then your God isn’t big enough.
Christianity is based on our own ability to have a personal relationship with the creator of Earth and Heaven.
should be centered on our very own Holy Spirit within... daaaa!...and the church has dropped the ball! A wonderfully wise Jew has picked it up though! fhu.com....
So we stand here and with open mouth stare heavenward and invent still other keys. Yet Christ says very clearly in Matt 16:19 that he will give the keys to Peter. He does not say he has two kinds of keys, but he gives to Peter the keys he himself has and no others. It is as if he [Christ] were saying: why are you staring heavenward in search of the keys? Do you not understand I gave them to Peter? They are indeed the keys of heaven, but they are not found in heaven. I left them on earth. Dont look for them in heaven or anywhere else except in Peters mouth where I have placed them. Peters mouth is my mouth, and his tongue is my key case. His office is my office, his binding and loosing are my binding and loosing
Thanks for this document. It comprises a summary of most of the basic errors upon which the flawed doctrine of catholicity rests.
(just a bookmarking notation)
Well, at least you didn’t cite the Donation of Constantine.
I will ask again. Why would a so called good Freeper stir up a hornets nest like this? Arguing among Protestants and Catholics is pointless.
The other side of the coin reads:
To be deep in history is to be PROUD to be Catholic.
