The popes have had their share of bad people. Leo X cared more about hunting than about the Gospel. That does not ipso facto discredit the office. Not every president is a Washington.
So much for the weeding out process.
The Catholic church is replete with bad popes and immorality and corruption.
It’s not like it’s just a matter of one bad apple here or there.
While it has gotten better in recent years, it still has a long way to go.
