Bishop Charles Helmsing in October of 1968 issued a condemnation of the National Catholic Reporter and asked the publishers to remove the name 'Catholic' from their title to no avail. From my perspective, NCRs positions against authentic Church teaching and leadership have not changed trajectory in the intervening decades. Took the words out of my mouth. This has been going on for almost 50 years now, and the bishops have done little or nothing to stop it, aside from a few individual complaints.
The least they could do is outlaw NCR or any advertising for it anywhere in Catholic parishes. And make sure that any priests who push it are duly punished. I'm not sure if they can legally make them change their name, since I don't think they have a patent or copyright on the word "catholic." I guess they could consult with lawyers and try, at least.

2 newspapers in the area. Catholic Key- which was gutted by Finn and is his voice , of no news value. The National Catholic Reporter -is in the same area, but does not tow the Bishop's line. He wants them out of business- of course that makes sense because Bishop finn is a convicted abettor of a child molester priest. Friends in high places kept him out of jail.
