Catholic hospital acknowledges error [St Thomas More Hospital unaware of lawyer's "fetus" arguments]

DENVER (AP) — A Catholic hospital on Monday acknowledged it was "morally wrong" for its attorneys to argue in court that a fetus is not a human being under Colorado law.

[SNIP]

In joint statements released Monday morning, the Bishops and CHI said the operation was "unaware" of the lawyers' legal arguments. They said that CHI executives acknowledged "it was morally wrong" to make that contention because it "directly contradicts the moral teachings of the Church."

The statements also noted that, while the legal status of the fetus was key to getting the case dismissed before trial, the hospital also won on appeal by arguing there was no proof that medical error caused the fetuses' deaths. The father of the unborn children is asking the Colorado Supreme Court to hear the case.

The argument won, but “what does it matter now?” They didn’t mean it, Yea, right.

The bishop is quite pro-life and conservative, and I hope he drops down on these people like a ton of bricks. The “Catholic” hospitals, like the “Catholic” universities, have been taken over by secularists and liberals and have been off on their own course for decades now, and the bishops haven’t called them to account.

It’s going to be a lot harder to do so now, but it’s something that must be done.

In other words, the hospital got caught and is trying like mad to back peddle.

Still, it is interesting to say “Right to life, as long as we don’t have to pay for it!”

I think this says good things about CHI and the Catholic Church. They are not willing to win at all costs and they are sticking to their moral guns. What's right is right.

Good for them.

The lawyers have a duty to defend no matter what you think.

Except that they didn't stick to their moral guns. From the article:

The hospital in question is part of the Centura Hospital Group which is responsible for operating and managing CHI ( Catholic Health Initiatives) hospitals within Colorado and apparently some other areas, along with AHS (Adventist Health System) hospitals in the same areas. These hospitals are managed by and the responsibility of first the Centura Hospital Group, then their respective sponsors, with the Bishop or Adventist leaders in a given area only having general information related to the hospitals in their areas. As such, this Bishop has no operational or management input, and in fact no legal authority to manage an individual hospital, demand information beyond what the operating boards permit him to have, or otherwise in any way dictate legal actions and strategies for any of the hospitals or other facilities that are in his area and a part of CHI or CHG.

The original suit against a Catholic hospital managed by the Centura group was won because there was absolutely no proof of any error on the part of the hospital or it's employees that could have caused the death of the infant. The Bishop would have been informed that the case had been won but that the decision was being appealed, and would have no reason to wonder whether or not the legal arguments would be different at the appeal hearing. He would have found that out the same time everyone else did, that is, when it was reported in the news.

He wouldn't know if one of the Adventist hospitals happened to be trying to settle some malpractice suits out of court, he wouldn't know that one of the Catholic hospitals in the group was hiring a new janitor, and he wouldn't know that CHG obviously wanted the attorneys to try to win the appeal using whatever strategy was most likely to have the appeal won as quickly as possible at the lowest possible cost. That is not the fault of the Bishop, the Catholic hospital in question, or any Catholic in the employ of the Bishop or the Catholic hospital. It is the result of a management decision by a management group in charge of, according to their website, "14 hospitals, seven senior living communities, medical clinics, affiliated partner hospitals, Flight For Life® Colorado, and home care and hospice services."

Propagandists don't care about truth. They only care about telling lies and moving from one lie to the next as fast as possible.
By rapidly moving from one lie to the next they know they can avoid ever dealing with facts because they can always dismiss someone who tries to correct them with, "that's old news, look at this Big New Lie, look at this pile of insinuations!". Such folks believe in supporting the anti-Christ culture of death any way they can. Either they are in love with the culture of death themselves, or they think they can take advantage of the chaos and corruption the culture of death spreads in its wake to further their own agenda.

I think you confuse the lawyers hired by the malpractice insurance company with the Hospital.

This is not the first time the leftist media has manipulated 'news' to fit an agenda.

Only useful idiots or those with the same agenda take the leftist media at face value.
