Is not Jesus referred to as the “stumbling stone”, a rock that causes men to fall? They stumble because they disobey the message, and busy themselves suppressing the message, or just nitpicking it to death.

People act funny when convicted of sin. Some will deny it outright, some will get self-righteous against their accuser, some will point out others' sin to diminish their own, and others will lawyer their way out (e.g., argue the meaning of the word "is").

Then there are those that will admit it and move on to the blessing of salvation. God is good.

Isaiah 55:8,9

Hmmmmm...that verse is BibleGateway's Verse of the Day. Now I read it here on FR a few minutes later. I guess God wants me to reflect on that scripture today. Thanks AC!

In Genesis, when God condemned the serpent to crawl on his belly forever....any idea how it got around before that?

Legs.... yes legs ... Boas and Pythons have vestigial limbs , partial remains of a PELVIS. If you pick one up and turn them over you will see a spur (small claw) that sticks out at the base of their tails .

1 Corinthians 2:9

But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him.

For the natural man receives not the things of the spirit of God for they are foolishness to the natural man for they are spiritually discerned.
The natural man as far as God is concerned is spiritually dead.

The spirit of God searches the deep things of God and reveals it to our spirit.

Jesus is only a stumbling stone, a rock of offence to those who are spiritually dead, and those who do not believe.

" Then there are those that will admit it and move on to the blessing of salvation. God is good. "

That's actually what God was after when he asked Adam in the garden, where are you Adam ?
Of course God knew where he and Eve was.
What God was driving at was for Adam and Eve to come clean, to come to the point of admitting where they went wrong.
If Adam and Eve were to admit their sin, that's when God begins restoration, salvation.
That's the whole point of God's holy law, to point to man where they fall short, and turn to God ( repentance, to have a change of mind ) and receive restoration, salvation.
Only God can save, for if we could save ourselves then we would have no need of a saviour.
What God demands ? God's grace supplies.
God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
The religious leaders and Pharisees thought that they were OK in their own sight and self imposed standards, forgetting that God's holy law was also pointing to them, and every year ? that there was a thing called a blood sacrifice for the remission of sins.

No...it is you who are incorrect. Perfect in holiness and perfect in unity. The Godhead (Romans 1:20; Colossians 2:9). God the Father has NO form (Col 1:15) by which they Godhead could have made man. The only “form” that exists is the Son...who created ALL things (Col 1:16; Eph 3:9; Heb 1:2; John 1:3; et al)...ALL things...including those things in Genesis 1.

>>>Speaking as someone who has taught a Bible course, the Bible is full of contradictions. Every scholar and student of the Bible knows it.

Hmmm. Funny. I am a Bible Scholar. I have a MDiv; ThM (in Systematic Theology); and ThD (Ante-Nicene Polemics) and I don't know that...and neither did ANY of my professors in the 3 seminaries I have attended. So...NO...not every scholar has come to that conclusion...only those who are liberal, spreading damnable heresies and seek to negate the Word of God.

There are NO contradictions...just places where your finite mind can't comprehend the infinite.

“Speaking as someone who has taught a Bible course, the Bible is full of contradictions.”

God’s word says your are a liar. Now whom do we believe God or you.? Hhmmmmmmm....! I think I’ll go with God...!

Jn. 17:17 “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

2:Tim. 3:16 & 17 “ All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Every scholar and student of the Bible knows it. It’s taught in seminary. There is an excellent book on the subject entitled “Jesus, Interrupted: Revealing the Hidden Contradictions in the Bible and Why We Don’t Know About Them” by Professor Bart D. Ehrman, Professor of New Testament Studies at the University of North Carolina.
Some of the contradictions occur due to different writers telling different stories to different audiences; some are due to insertions or deletions by scribes. (We do not have the originals.)

The words of Jesus condemn both you and your silly, ignorant, little “so called” professor....!

Matthew 7:15 @16 “ “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits.”

Matt. 7:21-23 “21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

One of Paul’s letters says women should not be church leaders, yet in another he speaks favorably of some women who are leaders of one of the churches to which he was writing.

Which letter..?

Paul’s letters say NO SUCH thing....! Again God’s word says you are a liar...!

2 Cor. 4:3&4: “ 3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.”

Matt. 15:8&9: “8 “These people draw near to Me with their mouth,And honor Me with their lips,But their heart is far from Me.9 And in vain they worship Me,Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.”

” The various Gospels tell different versions of the Crucifixion and Resurrection. In one, Jesus is silent all the way to Calvary and through his execution. In another, he cries out in despair. In another, he is forgiving everyone around him.”

The Holy Spirit, through inspired men, wrote all the scripture. Are you saying God “misled” us on purpose? God is trying to dupe us..? Do you think you could have done a better job at writing God’s word than what God himself did..? Just asking....! You seem to be saying God sure made a mess of the scriptures..!

John 16:13 “13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

“There are contradictory accounts of who went to the grave, who found the body risen, and to whom Jesus went and what he said.
There are conflicting accounts of the Christmas story. In one version, the family goes to Egypt. In another, they go back home to Galilee.

The contradictions abound. Most people don’t know about them because they are somewhat suppressed by preachers, but to deny them is folly.”

They are contradictions only to those who are ignorant of what God’s words teach. They are contradictions to those who have NEVER STUDIED AND DON’T KNOW THE TRUTH.

2 Tim. 2:15 “ Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

“It’s OK that there are contradictions. Different people interpret the same event in different ways and different ideas resonate with different audiences.” God appears to each of us in the way we’re most likely to understand.”

You have NO CLUE as to what the Bible teaches do you....? Your ignorance of scripture is astounding.....! You are pontificating on something you NO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT...scripture, God’s word.....!

Acts 10:34 “ Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:”

God speaks to ALL MEN THE SAME WAY...!

Hebrews 1:1&2 “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;”

‘No two people have the same experience of God, nor should they. That’s fine. It doesn’t make the Bible any less inspired. But to deny the contradictions is simply foolish. Trying to maintain that position will force you to twist yourself around like a pretzel.’

NO..! You are the one who is twisted because of your ignorance of God’s word...! You don’t have clue of that which you have spoken...! Your empty, vain words are just that. You have brillIantly displayed your ignorance of God’s word for all to see...!

>>>Here’s one I noticed by accident:

Not a contradiction at all. First of all, you are misquoting scripture. It is easy breezy to find an apparent contradiction when you misquote scripture. Any version (yours or others) that says Judas was satisfied is 100% incorrect and does not match with the Greek. Second, this is simply a supplement to Matt 27, not a correction. It is very easy to square when you realize two people are telling the same story and one is a historian (Luke). He gives the detail and shows how it is an OT fulfillment. Third, In the Greek, the word "purchased" means to acquire by any means. This Judas did, even though he did not do the purchase. It was his money and due to the law on Blood Money, it had to be used thusly.

Really simple.

Obviously the fulfillment of Romans 11:8 (According as it is written, “God hath given the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear”;) unto this day. Is in full display. Isaiah 29:19 The Heavenly Father knew the workings that would be of His little darlings.

Continuing, Romans 11:9 And David saith, “Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompense unto them:

10 Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.” Psalms 69:22

AND Mattthew 13:9 And the disciples came, and said unto Him, “Why speakest Thou unto them in parables?”

11 He answered and said unto them, “Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, (Isaiah 6:9-10) which saith, ‘By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.’

Why this sounds like the reason why Paul wrote Ephesians 1 to those with eyes to see and ears to hear.... predestination. One could almost expect saint O’Reilly’s name given his propensity to spout off. Hey Bill, if you by chance read this call it an allegory.

Contradictions exist? Where are they in the Old Testament? If the contradictions are exclusive to the New Testament, perhaps the contradiction is in our application of understanding language and culture. Also, believing that the Word is inspired throughout the OT/NT - the supposition that it is man’s error creating contradictions carries more weight, doesn’t it?
Here is a novel idea - look at the NT as commentary on the OT, in that light the contradictions will disappear.

Matthew 27: [1] And when morning was come, all the chief priests and ancients of the people took counsel against Jesus, that they might put him to death. [2] And they brought him bound, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. [3] Then Judas, who betrayed him, seeing that he was condemned, repenting himself, brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and ancients, [4] Saying: I have sinned in betraying innocent blood. But they said: What is that to us? look thou to it. [5] And casting down the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed: and went and hanged himself with an halter.

[6] But the chief priests having taken the pieces of silver, said: It is not lawful to put them into the corbona, because it is the price of blood. [7] And after they had consulted together, they bought with them the potter’s field, to be a burying place for strangers. [8] For this cause the field was called Haceldama, that is, The field of blood, even to this day. [9] Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremias the prophet, saying: And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was prized, whom they prized of the children of Israel. [10] And they gave them unto the potter’s field, as the Lord appointed to me.

And:

Acts 1:[16] Men, brethren, the scripture must needs be fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was the leader of them that apprehended Jesus: [17] Who was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. [18] And he indeed hath possessed a field of the reward of iniquity, and being hanged, burst asunder in the midst: and all his bowels gushed out. [19] And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem: so that the same field was called in their tongue, Haceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. [20] For it is written in the book of Psalms: Let their habitation become desolate, and let there be none to dwell therein. And his bishopric let another take.

I LOVE Biblegateway.com!!!

The audio version allows me to "listen" to Gods word whilst driving to and from work.

Also, I read the KJV of the bible and some times I need a modern translation, so all I do is hit the parallel option and it gives you the KJV and the NIV side by side.

I must admit, while the KJV is harder to understand, I feel as if I get more out of reading it. All other translations seem "to me" to be dull and lifeless...

You stated the Author is unknown. That is not true, did you deliberately leave out his name?

Why did you not put in an excerpt from the article?

Why did you not even bother to discuss what is in the atricle, but rather your own self-stroking misconceptions.

Is it because you wanted to pretend some importance yourself with your blathering first comment where you claim to be a teacher...having “taught a Bible Course”?

Well, then, I guess that establishes you credibility right there, huh!

Wow.

It is pretty easy to believe that the word of God does contradict its self, but we know that is mostly because man in his determination to get it to say what he wants it to say is bound to make mistakes.

The word of God according to who,s interpretation?
