"THANK the RC Church for giving to the world the Bible."

This is exactly the propaganda to which I refer. The so-called OT was a product of Israel, delivered by God through Moses and another hundred or so writers called prophets. The NT was established centuries before there was even such a thing as the RCC. Rome is as propagandistic as the Democrats and Obama. Read real history.

You obviously are not aware of what sacerdotalism is, my FRiend. Check it out and check out the underlying doctrines of Rome. There is no salvation outside of submission to the pope, according to that cult.

As part of the Christian family tree.

The Church is the Body of Christ and is inseparable from faith. That’s what happened on the day of Pentecost. The Church started. And Jesus said the Peter was the rock on which it would be built.

And yes, the Catholic and Orthodox Churches trace their beginnings to the first century in an unbroken line.

THANK the RC Church for giving to the world the Bible.

The written works were produced by Jews over the span of many centuries. Shouldn't we be thanking those individuals instead? We can include the NT in this, for those books were fairly well self-selected.

It was the Church that brought the OT to the rest of the world, with the NT. Many of the first Christians were Jewish.

"Your opinion and only your opinion."

You actually believe the Torah, w'Nebuim, w'Kethubim was written by Rome? Okay, this explains a great deal.

Saw today what looked like a large number of Eastern Orthodox as well as Eastern Rite Catholic leaders during the service/mass.

Jesus did not say Peter was the “rock”. Peter was the small rock, but on the big rock of the statement that “You are the Messiah, the Son of God.” the gathering of Jesus was built. Go read the Greek. The Roman myth has brainwashed millions.

It will surprise you.

But did not Jesus say “on this rock I will build my church? It was said to Peter.

This is why I question “sola scripture” or “scripture alone.”

Scripture, faith, and tradition all go together.

"But did not Jesus say “on this rock I will build my church? It was said to Peter."

Please read the text. If Jesus meant Peter, He would have said, "You are Peter and upon YOU I will build my assembly/gathering". He was referring to something else...the truth which was revealed to Peter.

Your group has made up the term "Church". There is no such word in the Greek, but that does not seem to stop Rome. Facts are such inconvenient realities.

I have read the Greek and that understanding is fundamentalist urban legend. The distinction between “Petra” and “Petros” is gender, not size. “Rock” in Greek is feminine - “petros.” If you were to use it as a man’s name, it would be “Petra.” If it meant something else, starting the sentence with “You are Peter” would make no sense at all.

The Greek Orthodox SPEAK Greek. And although they do not agree with the concept of the supremacy of the Roman See, they DO accept the concept of primacy and understand that the rock in this sentence is the Apostle Peter. That’s why Jesus NAMED him that.

Who told you this? Your tradition? So, it really is TRADITION................................faith.....................scripture?

Hmmm.

Party line, Hilda.

To rest your entire theology on a misunderstanding of a man’s role is frightening, at best. The believing world rests its theology on the entire text. Read the Book, Hilda, Rome is not central, Peter is not central (he even got rebuked by Paul), sacerdotalism is nothing but a throwback to the Mosaic Law. Read the Book...it doesn’t support Rome.

Jesus spoke Aramaic and he named Peter Cephas, which means “rock”. End of argument.

But Paul DID NOT say “faith alone”. The “alone” part came from Luther. Both Jesus and James thought and preached that one must care for their fellow man (works). To think otherwise is irrational and unhistorical.

A vicar is not a substitute for Christ, he is a substitute for Peter, prince of the Apostles, Jesus’ favorite, the first Apostle to see him after the resurrection, you know, the one who walked on water and raised the dead, the one who declared that he was the rock “Cephas”, on which he would build his church. There is no denying it. Only James and John were as close to Jesus as Peter.
