Sister Alicia Torres discusses symbolism of new pope’s name and more

Along with the tradition of naming a new pope, there’s the symbolism. The name Francis is in reference to St. Francis of Assisi– who shares much in common with the new pope. Sister Alicia Torres from the Franciscans of the Eucharist spoke about the importance.

We knew a lot more about Josef Cardinal Ratzinger than we do about Francis. Ratzinger was prominent in Catholic life for many years, and wrote the defining documents that came out of Vatican II.

Francis is much less well-known, and people are curious.
