I do know that he believes that—George Weigel had a major interview with him in May 2012 or 2011, incorporated into Weigel’s book, though I know it from Weigel’s op-ed in National Review.
Weigel quotes him as saying much the same.
Whoever put this together knows Bergoglio’s record VERY well. It echoes things we know he has taught and said in the past but states them with a kind of bluntness that I just can’t imagine even a warhorse bishop saying in a public interview.
But perhaps he did. If so, he’s a George S. Patton kind of guy.
But I still think it might be very clever liberal-head-exploding artifice.
That Bishop Brain sure has one.
I think we’ve found the next pope: His Excellency Terrance Brain, bishop of Salford.
A number of things show this is not real. Even though it is essentially true, I don’t think Cardinal Bergoglio would say publicly that Pope John Paul II “rescued” him. He would never say that South America is lost. Also, this interview makes it sounds like he has been a critic of socialism, I don’t remember him ever expressing that.
