I couldn’t let it go when I saw one of those lazy, thoughtless sneers cross my timeline, to the effect that Pope Francis (good guy) was refusing to stay in (bad guy) “Pope Benedict’s luxurious apartments.”

Apparently, some of these individuals also frequent this forum. Ping!

To me, the decision about where he’s going to live seems to be a largely pragmatic one. He’s got the job, and it’s up to him to decide how to do it most effectively, including where he wants to sleep.

If he finds the St. Martha residence doesn’t work out for some reason, the Vatican has plenty of other rooms, including (of course) the ones where several previous Popes lived.

I think Ms. Scalia (not usually my favorite commentator) has Pope Francis pretty well pegged. When I saw his big, confident smile, I knew he was ready to take on anything.
