Since Monsignor Georg Gänswein, the secretary of Benedict XVI is engrossed in the duties of Archbishop of the Roman Curia, a German deacon has been called to Castel Gandolfo. The Pope has been living there in seclusion since 28th February. Four members of Memores Domini have been responsible for household duties in the Papal summer residence. Because of the frequent absences of Gänswein with his duties as Prefect of the Apostolic Household needed a commute between Castel Gandolfo and the Vatican, he called on a specially selected person of German mother tongue, to be near Benedict XVI. When the move to the Vatican takes place is not yet clear. It was originally scheduled for late April. Gänswein is also discussed as the next Archbishop of Cologne . A bishopric which is traditionally associated with the cardinal's hat.

Poor translation but the German original is rather jerky to begin with.

Aw. This is sad. Yet another sacrifice by the pope emeritus.

It is sad, but frankly, I don’t think BXVI is going to be with us much longer. He didn’t want the entire Church to be bogged down while he was dying, but he knows it’s at hand and that’s why he resigned.

He is a holy, spiritual person and I think he is living this out in Christ, as he should be.

Benedict looks very thin in that picture. He may have a serious illness that he hasn’t disclosed, and was the reason for his retirement.
