'Seduction of Christianity' Author Dave Hunt Dies

Dave Hunt, an apologist, best-selling author, speaker and radio commentator, died April 5 with his wife, Ruth, at his side. He was 87.

Noted for his research on cults, the occult and New Age doctrines, which began creeping into the church during the 1980s, Hunt was renowned for his controversial 1985 best-seller, The Seduction of Christianity (Harvest House Publishers), which he co-authored with T.A. McMahon.

A prolific author of more than 40 books with at least 4 million copies sold, many translated into 50 languages, Hunt's other titles include Yoga and the Body of Christ; A Woman Rides the Beast; and Debating Calvinism: Five Points, Two Views. Hunt founded The Berean Call, an apologetics ministry, in 1992.

He also wrote two novels: The Mind Invaders (formerly The Archon Conspiracy) and Sanctuary of the Chosen. Additionally, Hunt wrote a children's book, The Money Tree, with his daughter Karen. His videos include Israel, Islam & Armageddon and A Woman Rides the Beast. Hunt also hosted two radio program, Search the Scriptures Daily and According to God's Word.

"Dave's bold yet loving approach to discern and then deliver the truth is evident in everything he did," The Berean Call website said. "His love for Jesus, for Israel and for people in general was obvious to all. His enthusiasm for the truth, along with his anger over the sin and wickedness that he knew was robbing people of what God wanted for them, flamed his desire to share the Lord with anyone with whom he had contact."

Hunt is survived by his wife of 63 years. A private burial service was held, and Hunt will remembered during the summer Bible conference of The Berean Call Aug. 23-24 in Bend, Ore.

I “hoisted him up” as counterpoint to a politically charged statement in a religious context...

Distinction without difference. One does not have to be a "Dave Hunt Scholar" to recall his antagonism to Catholic teaching, even if the offending particular does not immediately spring to mind.

I can't immediately recall my grievances with Jesse Jackson either, but one would be silly to assume they have no merit just because they've gone down the memory hole.

The Papacy is not the church, but a political machine that took control over the church. The Papacy is Constantinian, not Petrine. Your so called “throne of Peter” is in reality the throne of Constantine.

The Papacy masquerades as the church Christ founded.

What blasphemy is this?

It is recognition. that unless Protestants can produce the OT prophecy to Simeon from Luke 2, their understanding of "The Word of God" stands falsified.

Did you really think Catholics are unaware of Anti-Catholic dogma, and it needed repeating?

Theological differences do not bigotry make in this country, not yet they don't. You have the right to believe as you do. I have the right to criticize it. So did Mr. Hunt.

Otherwise, you're looking at being an anti-Protestant bigot, in a majority Protestant country. That sort of thing hasn't worked out so well historically, for those who believe as you do in such a situation, or for those who believe as I do with the shoe on the other foot. This nation was founded upon religious freedom, not invoking governmental control to squelch theologies with which you disagree.

Now that this basic civics lesson is concluded, please proceed.

You were saying?

"Did you really think Catholics are unaware of Anti-Catholic dogma, and it needed repeating?"

In these forums one comes to expect that differences of interpretation and doctrinal development will occur based upon nothing more than opinion and personal bias. What is truly sad and very telling, is some believe that verifiable secular history must be distorted and fabricated in an attempt to shore up the a particular anti-Catholic agenda.

Peace be with you

Damn. I’m still waiting on Richard Dawkins to kick the bucket. There’s an author that truly deserves to go.

I just read Luke 2 and failed to see what you could possibly be saying, or even arguing for. I don’t like it when other people make me do work to figure out their own arguments, so please quote the scripture and explain what you mean, thoroughly, so I don’t argue against phantoms.

I notice you also dodged the other part of my post. Since you didn’t address it, I have no reason to take your arguments seriously, as it doesn’t appear that Roman tradition is, in fact, the “Word of God.”

Sorry, I wasn't aware that antagonism towards a critic constituted "invoking governmental control to squelch theologies with which you disagree."

I beg the Party's forgiveness....

Actually, Dave Hunt, a leading proponent of taking the Bible seriously instead of false doctrine taught over the centuries by hate filled murderers of those who printed the bible in their own language, died.

Sound any better?

Might need to run to the welcoming arms of the Democrats again, that’s their language being used to shut down opposition, same as they do. It appears all those decades voting for them has had lasting repercussions. Funny it didn’t with southern Protestants. Wonder why?

I’ll contact my bishop, who’s my distant cousin, and ask him to submit Mr Hunt’s name to Rome for consideration for Sainthood.

I didn't dodge it: I ignored it. I consider it on par with "trutherism."

Simeon testifies, under the sway of the Holy Spirit (according to Holy Writ itself), his knowledge he would see the Christ before death was according to God's Word. Unless one can cite the OT prophesy informing him of same, "The Word of God" is comprised of MORE than that which is contained in "The Bible." Therefore, the doctrine of discounting the authority of anything NOT contained in the Bible is falsified.

IOW, you take it on faith that those quotes are wrong. But, don’t expect me to take your faith seriously when the evidence is against it.

“Simeon testifies, under the sway of the Holy Spirit (according to Holy Writ itself), his knowledge he would see the Christ before death was according to God’s Word. 2Ti 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (17) That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

The scripture states that it is profitable for doctrine... that the man of God may be perfect. Just because someone receives a word from the Holy Spirit, or some other miracle from the power of God, does not mean that the scripture isn’t really profitable for doctrine and incapable of making a man perfect. I’ve certainly heard many prophecies or words people have claimed to receive from God, and yet none of them were capable of adding to the scripture or taking away from it. A girl I knew was on her way to becoming a Muslim, as she was under the mistaken opinion that it was a beautiful religion (she’s European, unfortunately). One day, as she was about to begin this unholy journey, she suddenly received a vision that told her that Islam was a false religion, and Jesus Christ is the one true God, complete with the usual bright lights and all that jazz. Is this the word of God? Well, MAYBE. If the vision is true, it was indeed the word of God. But am I unable to find out that Islam is a false religion and that Christ is the one true God from the scripture? On top of this, though, I have also seen many false prophecies, all throughout history, and how are we to judge these alleged “words of God?” We try the Spirits using the only sure scripture in existence, which is the Bible. No oral tradition is immune from this necessary test.

What you are apparently arguing is that Roman tradition, which you’ve given us no reason to accept in the first place, is needed to make us “more perfect.” You deny that the scripture is sufficient for this purpose. Ergo, I deny your religion entirely, and I’ll point to Gregory and a dozen other early Church Fathers who don’t agree with what Rome agrees with today, despite their claiming to be the inheritors of an infallible tradition.

Yes.

We repeat, but with a little addendum:

The Papacy is not the church but a political machine that took over the church - much like what has happened in this country. The socialist political machine that has taken over this country bears no resemblance to the original.

One of Dave’s favorite activities was to see whom God would seat next to him on airplanes as he traveled and spoke. He often said that he “could prove the existence of God” just by these providential occurrences.

While writing about Islam, he would end up seated next to a Muslim who didn’t really understand what Islam was about but was eager to hear the difference between the Bible and the Qur’an.

When Dave was writing about creation vs. evolution, the Lord would bring him, as a seat companion, an atheistic scientist who thought he had all the answers and was very surprised that there was another verifiable explanation to this universe.

Dave’s bold yet loving approach to any situation allowed him entrance into these conversations where many others would have been shut out.

His love for Jesus, for Israel, and for people in general was obvious to all. His enthusiasm for the truth, along with his anger over the sin and wickedness that he knew was robbing people of what God wanted for them, flamed his desire to share the Lord with anyone with whom he had contact.

“Biblical Christianity is not a religion; it is a relationship as children to a loving Father, which every true Christian has with God through Jesus Christ.”
