In describing what SFL is all about, I have often said that satire and parody are blunt instruments that lack nuance. Satire is good for pointing out glaring common problems but somewhat less useful when it comes to dealing with churches that dont completely fit the mold of the stereotypical IFB mold: the nice churches with the pastors who dont yell. Perhaps they wear pants to Wednesday night church and slip the occasional praise chorus (sans drums) into their worship line up. The members of these churches do seem like nice people even though they refuse to take the words Independent Baptist down off their sign and think that the word fundamentalist is at worst a misunderstood term thats still salvageable. What are we to make of these kinder, gentler fundamentalists?
The problem is that philosophy matters. Theology matters. The way we treat the vulnerable and the broken matters very much indeed. To that end, here are three questions for the people in the nice churches.

From what I’ve studied, Jesus was quite the Fundamentalist.
By ex fundies for ex fundies. Basically preaching to the ex fundie choir.
Jesus was a Jew
Well the sad part is most who leave churches like these do not leave on happy terms. “Darrell” is not the first I’ve met and won’t be the last.
Now you can take this story one of two ways. A hit piece or a wake up call. It is your choice. Still the bottom line is there are a lot of “Darrells” out there and I posted this because like Darrell I am so sick and tired of they way I was treated by these people and still are today.
You don't think there are fundamentalist Jews? You know, the guys in black, or the people who live in Judaea and Samaria? (Of course, J*sus wasn't a good Jew so he most definitely was not a fundamentalist Jew.)
"Fundamentalist" means one who believes the fundamentals. One can believe in the fundamentals of any number of religions (or even non-religious things). You write as if "fundamentalist" were some sort of ethno-cultural designation for poor rural Anglo-Saxons who live in trailer parks. That's not even what the word meant when it was first used.
You think the Bible is full of mythology, I take it?
It’s almost amusing to watch Christians rage against each other over VERY IMPORTANT THINGS!!! while the muslims and the godless are already inside the city gates.
Almost.
Nice Churches = ignore the gospel and preach whatever silly PC crap is on the menu for the day.
And when the flock stops coming...
I’ll give you that.
You also forgot what they are NOT talking about in church. How about abortion? Oh and why? They might “offend” someone. They don’t want to bring up a “touchy” subject. You know Abby Johnson said it best. The only reason abortion has been going on is because the churches allow it, and they allow it due to apathy!
Watch this...Abby says it all and tells preachers off for not preaching against abortion.
