Exodus 19:16 On the morning of the third day there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud on the mountain and a very loud trumpet blast, so that all the people in the camp trembled. 17 Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet G-d, and they took their stand at the foot of the mountain. 18 Now Mount Sinai was wrapped in smoke because the L-rd had descended on it in fire. The smoke of it went up like the smoke of a kiln, and the whole mountain trembled greatly.
Philo, a Jewish philosopher from the 1st century A.D., wrote,
“from the midst of the fire that streamed from heaven there sounded forth to their utter amazement a voice, for the flame became articulate speech in the language familiar to the audience, and so clearly and distinctly were the words formed by it that they seemed to see rather than hear them”....Praying for the Peace of Jerusalem, the People of Israel, the persecuted church, our own nation.
