The president of Ohio State University said Notre Dame was never invited to join the Big Ten because the university's priests are not good partners, joking that 'those damn Catholics' can't be trusted, according to a recording of a meeting he attended late last year. Gordon Gee also took shots at schools in the Southeastern Conference and the University of Louisville, according to the recording of the December meeting of the school's Athletic Council that The Associated Press obtained under a public records request. The university called the statements inappropriate and said Gee is undergoing a 'remediation plan' because of the remarks. In trouble: Ohio State University president Gordon Gee was heard in a recording joking that the priests at Notre Dame University 'can't be trusted' and that's why they were never accepted into the Big 10 conference Listen: OSU Pres blasts 'those damn Catholics' of Notre... Gee apologized in a statement released to the AP. 'The comments I made were just plain wrong, and in no way do they reflect what the university stands for,' he said. 'They were a poor attempt at humor and entirely inappropriate. There is no excuse for this and I am deeply sorry.' Gee, who has taken heat previously for uncouth remarks, told members of the council that he negotiated with Notre Dame officials during his first term at Ohio State, which began more than two decades ago. 'The fathers are holy on Sunday, and they're holy hell on the rest of the week,' Gee said to laughter at the December 5 meeting attended by Athletic Director Gene Smith and several other athletic department members, along with professors and students. 'You just can't trust those damn Catholics on a Thursday or a Friday, and so, literally, I can say that,' said Gee, a Mormon.

A Mormon President of a secular university says that you cannot trust the damned Catholics. And is being publicly rebuked. What is up with the Big Ten at the moment? Notre Dame is a heretical hotbed of very not-Catholics. However, the only Big Ten school I'd consider sending my kids to right now is Iowa. Just. Anybody else find anything wrong with Catholic bashing by the head of Ohio State University?

Notre Dame has been playing USC since 1926, and they’re starting to play Stanford regularly. Why don’t the Domers join the Pac 12?

I have no great love for ND, but OSU is the epitome of corruption in college athletics.
My sons have graduated from Iowa State (Marine ROTC) and from Purdue (Air Force ROTC); both of these schools are first class institutions and they both have really great respect for veterans and their ROTC programs.
I wouldn’t give you a bucket of spit for OSU.

If he has to curse in making a statement — why should I believew anything that he says? Obviously not a practicing Christian or he wouldn’t use four letter words.

Gordon Gee is a horse’s patoot of the first order. I can’t figure out how he could get a job at a two year community college, let alone a major university. The guy is worse than worthless.

We are to put off filthy language, but sometimes the old man creeps in, we are sanctified by grace, and to be honest I am practicing christian for 17 years and when I am VERY angry, a curse word will fly, it is shocking, it actually makes me gasp, but I am still a practicing christian, and I sin, shocker.

Soccer hooligans, anyone?

Some Scottish Catholics have suggested that doing the "Hokey Pokey"-- or "Hokey Cokey," as it is sung in Great Britain-- should be banned as an expression of anti-Catholic prejudice. A spokesman for Cardinal Keith O'Brien of Edinburgh alluded to the "disturbing origins" of the children's song, which includes a parody of the words of consecration from the Latin Mass.

That they are far too chicken to survive.
