As we walked into the Man Of Steel movie, my wife and I ran into two groups of friends who had just seen the movie and were leaving the theater. One group was Christian, the other group was not. Our Christian friends agreed with what we had heard, that there were several Christian themes and images in the movie. Our non-Christian friends told us that they had not noticed any Christian messages at all. This fits the definition of a dog whistle, a message broadcast to all but heard only by certain ears. And we Christians are the dogs.
But that’s OK with this Christian. In fact, the movie was so chock-full of dog whistles for Christians, it almost felt intentional.

I think that there really is something to this but I don’t know why Hollywood is doing it. I have been picking up on these “dog whistles” in a lot of movies and TV shows lately. I don’t look for them but something clicks when I see them. I don’t think it is being done to draw in audiences because you’ve already paid for the ticket. JMO.
I just noticed another CGI-fest with flat characters and shallow plot.
Couldn't wait to get out of the theater. I don't get what all the fuss is about.
Saw them, heard them... loved the movie.
Not just some Christian references, but also a big ol’ anti-Islam message as well.
The movie is a bit thin on plot, a lot of destruction, a lot of action which is great, but would like a little more “meat” to the film.

For me, this statement prompts the question of whether or not the non-Christian friends would recognize a Christian message if they heard it.
The Superman film before this, Superman Returns, had its share of Christian symbolism including the crucifixion posture taken as he fell to Earth after saving it, apparently dead. There were others which I cannot recall specifically but I felt they were fairly obvious. It sounds like in the new film they are more overt and frequent.
You can’t hear the “Christian dog whistles” (or the music for that matter), because all you can hear is the sound of buildings being smashed and falling down the whole time.
I liked the movie... but it’s a total assault on the senses, catering to today’s ADHD culture.
I advised my father definately don’t take mom to the theater... instead, wait for it on pay-per-view and watch with your finger on the mute button for every fight scene.

Our culture is packed with tales, stories and myths that point to God’s story, to the fall of man, his redemption through the sacrifice of God’s Son, to the epic battle between the forces of evil and the forces of Righteousness, to the replacement of corrupt wicked hearts with hearts of goodness and righteousness.
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
Which just shows that the whole leftist notion of "dog whistle" is rubbish: literary allusions are only understood by those who read or at least have a passing familiarity with the work alluded to; likewise pop culture references are only understood by those who attend to the relevant domain of popular culture; private jokes based on common shared experience are only funny to the couple, family or group of friends who shared the experience, the list could go on. The notion that there is anything invidious about messages that only some people understand is absurd -- illiterates will always miss literary allusions, those of us who prefer high culture to (at least most of) pop culture will always miss pop culture references, and the rest of the world doesn't get private jokes. So?
Why can’t people just enjoy things without over analyzing every single thing

How would you compare it to the 1978 Superman film(plot and story wise, not special effects and action wise)?
I thought a better Superman movie for Christian themes was “Super Man Returns” from a couple of years ago!!
I just saw it anhour ago, a must see movie and yes it does send an anti Islam message so to speak near the end, about Washington not listening.
Definitely the best Superman though its more of the JJ Abrams alternate theory.

Rumor has it that there are a lot of Christian writers in Hollywood who are trying to be a witness in that environment.
It could be they are putting that stuff in, knowing that those who have ears to hear will get the message and it goes right by those who don’t so they won’t be stopped.
Those who hate Christianity can’t stop what they don’t see.
