It would be a good thing for Americans, particularly Christians, to learn a bit more about this guy, and at least pronounce his name properly. The accent in 'Vladimir' is on the second syllable ( 'vla-DEE-mir' ); The name seems to originate with the city of the same name and is a contraction of "vladyets mirom" or 'rule world', meaning 'ruler of the (Slavic) world':
"владеть миром" ==> "Владимир"
The return of Russia to its Christian roots is genuine. Nobody would go to the trouble to be building 200 Christian churches in and around Moscow or rebuild that gigantic cathedral for propaganda.
