Tens of thousands of people complained about a Facebook page that promotes the notion that the Virgin Mary should have had an abortion. Titled “Virgin Mary Should’ve Aborted,” the administrator of the page claims to “explain what really happened in the biblical times, since the bible is full of lies.”
After a massive campaign to contact Facebook and a corresponding hashtag campaign on Twitter, it appears the page has been taken down.
“Virgin Mary Should’ve Aborted,” which had at its peak about 6,800 likes, was taken down Wednesday, likely in response to complaints from Christian activists.
The effort against the page was spearheaded by the Facebook group “Catholics & Protestants Against FB Religious Discrimination.”
Cary Bogue, founder of the Facebook group, Catholics & Protestants Against FB Religious Discrimination, said in a statement that he was “pleased” with the removal. “We believe they responded appropriately. While it may have been a bitter pill to swallow, they stepped up and did the right thing and we will not take that credit away from them.”
However, it appears a replacement Facebook page has been put up instead.
Hours after Virgin Mary Should’ve Aborted was taken down, the group’s admins created a new page named “Virgin Mary STILL Should’ve Aborted.”
“Tired of being pushed around by religious hypocrisy. We will get our page back,” reads the “About” section for the new page, which has already garnered over 750 likes.
According to one of the admins, the old page has been “temporarily unpublished” by Facebook but that they “are fighting” the decision under the belief that they never promoted hate speech.
“At no point did we promote violence. We will be back. But for now.. please log your complaints here,” reads a post from the moderators on the new page.
Celene Schartner of Australia says the page not only demeans what Christians believe, but it is slanderous and hateful. It diminishes the right to life of every unborn infant in its mother’s womb by its very title and statement.
“Many Christians worldwide are so distressed at the attempts to diminish Christian values and the slanderous attacks on the Bible,” said Schartner. “If people don’t believe that’s their choice, but they need to learn respect for the choices of others.”

As U.S. Spokesman for “Catholics & Protestants Against Facebook Religious discrimination”, Cary Bogue denounced the page as “beyond offensive”.
“No Christian, anywhere can consider this just ‘free speech.’ This has deliberately been set-up to offend and attack.”
Bogue maintains the page clearly is in violation of Facebook’s own policy, which states, “While we encourage you to challenge ideas, institutions, events, and practices, we do not permit individuals or groups to attack others based on their religion.”
Bogue believes Facebook has created an automated response to complaints about the page claiming it does not consider it an attack on a religion.
“That is just absurd. All we are asking is Facebook adhere to it’s own guidelines,” said Bogue.
Maybe we instead we should deluge them with promises that we’ll pray for them.

Only if he's looking forward to looking over his shoulder for the rest of his life. It would be ironic if a Muslim (Islam does venerate the Virgin Mary) looked askance at this page and decided to work this guy over.

Taken to its logical consequence, if every mother aborted her child (or children), the end of the human race in one generation. Are liberals really taht stupid? Sorry—yes.
