Joseph Torsella, a U.S. representative to the United Nations, on Thursday delivered a speech to the UN General Assembly commemorating the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedys final speech to the UN. It was a routine statement, a speech honoring a speech.
But Torsella attributed something Jesus said to Kennedy.
He concluded his speech on Kennedy: The very best way we can honor the extraordinary legacy of an extraordinary man is not to look back but to look ahead. To rededicate ourselves to his vision. To continue to answer his call in our time. Toas he said it better than any of us ever couldput our hands to the plow without looking back, and move the world to a just and lasting peace.
Perhaps the first person to say that phrase said it better: Jesus, in Luke 9:62 (ESV), says, No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.
Biblical phrases are common in the English language, and biblical literacy is so low broadly speaking, that its not surprising the U.S. Mission would attribute Jesus words to Kennedy.
But Kennedy, when he delivered the speech to the United Nations in 1963, attributed the phrase to the Bible.
Let us complete what we have started, Kennedy said. For, No man who puts his hand to the plow and looks back, as the Scriptures tell us, No man who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.
Funniest thing I’ve read all day. JFK and the Bible. That kills me!
Well he is part of the Obama administration so ignorance is a prerequisite.
Now we just have to have someone attribute something from the Koran to our Dear Leader himself, and our day will be complete.
JFK is largely revered by many Catholics, and received a high status Catholic burial.
“The Funeral Mass of John F. Kennedy. It was a Low Mass said by Cardinal Cushing.”

Thery’re still worhsipping the Kennedys. Their new generation doesn’t realize JFK cut taxes, humiliated the communists, and had MLK under surveillance.
performed in PERFECT ARABIC..and with a great deal of “reverence for his Mooselim faith....er his Christian Faith....
salami salami baloney
In the speech, Kennedy explicitly references the Bible. It’s worse than biblical illiteracy, it’s a quote taken second hand, without referring to the original
reminds me of democrat howard (whatever his name was) who when asked his favorite new testament book responded with Job.
This [50th anniversary worship] is going to be interesting to watch.
Like the idiot AlGore, instead of saying John 3:16, he said John 16:3
John 16:3 (NIV) “They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me.”
You can’t tell me that God doesn’t have a sense of humor.
I had forgotten about that one, thanks for reminding me,
I’ll tell you the truth, in all my years of watching politics, and following every presidential election and convention since Jimmy Carter, never have I witnessed anything as vile as the last Democrat convention,
They heckled and booed any mention of God, even to the point the announcer appeared surprised, (that is to say, merely surprised they would so blatantly reveal their heathen pagan ideology to the general public)
watching that, I was reminded of Psalm 2:
“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.” Psalm 2:1-3
This is what the people voted for in November of 2012, this is what they wanted,
I remember the furor about whether the Nation would elect a "Catholic". At least he used the paraphrase of the quote in context. Old Testament has God telling folks, whom He set about on tasks, to not worry because He would be their rearguard - Once you set upon the Lord's work, you have no reason to look back because He has your back.
Happens all the time. The quote is attributed to the last person to attribute it to an earlier (and perhaps correct) source.
E.G. Twain did not say “There are three kinds of lies...etc.” What he said was “Someone, I think it was Disraeli, said there are three kinds of lies...etc”
Yet, the quote is most often attributed to Twain.
Big deal — just correct it and move on.
Everyone can rest easy. I’m not attacking Catholicism or Christianity. It’s just the idea of the Kennedy clan quoting the Bible I find hilarious. Please don’t try to make Jack out to be a practicing faithful Catholic. Never even mind Bobby or Teddy. Even though JFK had what we know to be essentially conservative ideas in contrast to this day, in his, he was still a liberal. That means it is a sad thing that we have all slipped to the point where a liberal seems conservative because our own leadership is so weenie-ish.
Kennedy’s using the Bible, though. That’s a killer.
My point was that the Catholic church has always treated the Kennedy family as the America’s Royal Catholic family, as the Catholic Monarchy for America.
It has always been Popes, Catholic Pomp, and the burials reserved for the Catholic rich, when it comes to the Kennedys.
JFK was an incompetent, idiot lefty, who’s stolen victory destroyed America.
