I found the quote. Pope Francis said you [the atheist he was writing to in La Repubblica] can be saved "If you turn to Him with a sincere and contrite heart."
It's possible that part wasn't quoted in whatever garbled, edited MSM version of it you might have read.
For some unfathomable reason.
Likewise the thing about "softening the Church's stand on abortion." The day after the 12,000 word Jesuit interview was published, Pope Francis gave a talk to a group of gynecologists and said that today's "throw-away culture" justifies disposing of lives, but doctors in particular must "respect life."... "Every child that isn't born, but is unjustly condemned to be aborted, has the face of Jesus Christ, has the face of the Lord," [Link -- see for yourself]--- that's what Pope Francis said.
"Softening the Church's stance against abortion"? He says it is akin to the crime of killing Christ! "Whatsoever you do to the least of My brethren..."
Perhaps you would care to post the direct quote of the Pope's words where he said that?
Hint: You can't, because that's not what he said. Now some people will argue that that's the logical conclusion to draw from what he said; that's fine. But that's not the same thing as him actually saying it.
BTW, the Pope's comments in a personal letter, interview, etc., don't change a single jot or tittle of Catholic doctrine. That's simply not how it's done.
That abortion is a grave moral evil was infallibly taught by John Paul II (among others) and cannot be changed.
Yep.
He just wants to jump onto what he perceives is the popularity bandwagon. Blind leader of the blind.
