Another Protestant tradition that is not in Scripture.
On the contrary, it is among the oldest of commandments in the book.
Deuteronomy 66 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
Note what was identified as commandment of God, the word of God, even the holy writ. That makes the Word, supreme, with Christ much ratifying that, in each and every occurrence in which in His own dealing with those who would pervert or change the word of God by their own teachings and traditions, would say to them in rebuke " It is written", even also to the devil himself;
I could go on, but that's enough for now...
So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.
You have cited texts emphasizing the importance of Scripture. None of them teaches sola scriptura.
“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart”
The “Word” you are referring to is the ORAL WORD,
not the written word.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. ~ John 1
Sola Scriptura is unbiblical nonsense. The Bible was not around forever. And before the Bible was THE WORD. Which are traditions passed down through the ages. WORD OF MOUTH.
