Except this one:
So you have difficulty accepting the writings of the savior touted in Mormonism, Joseph Smith?I wasn't trying to trick you, perhaps I worded the question wrong.
Here's another part of Mormon teachings that I would appreciate you commenting upon:
Do you agree with those teachings?
- Brigham Young taught: "The birth of the Savior was as natural as are the births of our children; it was the result of natural action. He partook of flesh and blood---was begotten of his Father as we were of our fathers" (Journal of Discourses vol.8, p.115); and "when the Virgin Mary conceived the child Jesus, the Father had begotten him in his own likeness [flesh and blood]. He was not begotten by the Holy Ghost" (Journal of Discourses, vol.1, p.50).
- Brigham Young insisted: "I will say that I was naturally begotten; so was my father, and also my Savior Jesus Christ...he is the first begotten of his father in the flesh, and there was nothing unnatural about it" (Journal of Discourses vol.8, p.211); "Now remember from this time forth, and for ever, that Jesus Christ was not begotten by the Holy Ghost" (Journal of Discourses, vol.1, p.51).
The seem to go along with what President Hinckley said at LDS Church News Week ending June 20, 1998, p. 7:
"In bearing testimony of Jesus Christ, President Hinckley spoke of those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints 'do not believe in the traditional Christ.' 'No, I don't. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak..."I've often thought that when I see a Mormon give their testimony including "my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" if they mean the Jesus of the Bible or the one of the LDS belief system.
If they truly believe in all the official teachings of their belief system, they must mean their Mormon jesus.
But it always looks like they mean the Jesus of the Bible.
In which case, they are believing in a Jesus that is not the one of Mormonism.
If that is so, I always wonder why they don't just become Christians. (disclaimer: Mormons for the longest time distanced themselves from being called "Christians" but I have noticed in the last few decades they have embraced the title of Christian.)
Oh and considering Peter standing guard at the pearly gates?
Nothing in the Bible substantiates that, it is just a pretty much assumed "fact" by many, perhaps because of the position given Peter by Rome.
Christians go to heaven to meet Jesus, not to be greeted by Peter or to "pass by" Smith who BTW will not be standing there.
