I had commented to a friend that if a woman was made cardinal, she’d probably want a different shade of red to wear. I guess this makes it going to be a whole new color.

If this is true it would seem to indicate Mother Theresa was considered for such but the only reason she was not made a Cardinal was because she didn’t want to be one; not because of Canon Law.
I took this to mean JPII asked her as a light-hearted joke. That said, I have no opinion on whether or not this happened.
