Going from over 400 diocesan priests to under 200 (and most of them are probably long in the tooth) is no mean achievement—as well as having the Catholic population shrink while the overall population grew. However, in fairness, as I understand it there were already some severe problems in place and he started off better than he finished. (I hear that his very first act after ordination was visiting the seminary, and the very first thing he did there was have them put the veil back over the tabernacle.)
Time to offer up prayers for him and the diocese. There are many fine people there in need of good leadership.
