From the leaders on down, this militant missionary program is of great pride to the mormon church.

HMMMmmm...

You've got to be carefully taught...

Mormans are some of the weathiest people in the country. Especially the bishops, with Mitt Romney being one of the richest.

I find the fact that this particular congregation actively shunned this bishop and ordered him to leave while the 80,000 mormon missionaries are actively trespassing on the properties of thousands and expecting to be welcomed to spread their propaganda to complete strangers.

Bingo...

Mormon Pharisaical-like religious hypocrisy on display.

This whole thing was nothing more than a publicity stunt and an exercise in hypocrisy. When I see this “bishop” sell all his possessions and give it to the poor, then I will praise him.

100’s of churches do this “acting” and do not go running to the press to announce it, don’t you find it strange that this story is even ‘news’.

Jesus might have froze to death in my town.

I understand your point but over half of the people who approach churches are scammers.

I got to talk a little with a “homeless” guy once and he was bragging out he got this church pastor to pay for a room for him. Once it was paid for with a credit card, room service and bar service was charged to the room and he left the pastor with over $300 in additional charges.

I find it funny how desperate “Christians” are to denounce it.

Its not my fault that Mormons are behaving like better Christians than many actual Christians are.

Looks like the Bishop did a bit of reading. It’s exactly what the character in “What Would Jesus Do” (the book that prompted the movement) did.

Many years ago, when that book first came out, one of the deacons in our (Evangelical) church did the same sort of thing.

He let his beard grow in some, didn't shower for a couple days, wore some old, dirty clothes and came into the church to see what the reaction would be.

Some people reached out to him but it was not as good as it should have been, or what people claimed our church was like, that it would welcome homeless people.

I didn't see him until it was over so I heard about it before I saw him. You would not have recognized him.

Really? Your reading comprehension skills need improving, or at least your honesty in commentary.
He said 5 member of his congregation did that. A typical LDS congregation is composed of between 450 to 500 members.

Even the Anti Mormon newspaper, SL Tribune was honest in its story... Here's a snip:

But then some church members rushed to help the man.

“I was just overcome with emotion,” Kay Lamoreaux said. “Because this is church in action. He’s not being escorted out, but he’s being treated with love and respect.”

Then the man made a highly unusual request — he wanted to address the congregation — in the middle of the service.

Yates said the man mumbled at first, then read a verse of a song and said the ward had been nice to him and said he wanted to give something back.

Nobody said they were Christian but they’re still doing a lot better job than many.

If you’ve got to use strawman arguments I’m not going to waste my time with you.

The question still remains, why is this a news story, when hundreds of churches do this sort of thing and it does not generate a story?
How did it make it into the press?
Who went to the press and why?

huh?
A person of group of persons cannot act Christian when they are not, so I still do not know what your point is.

Sure...I talked at length with these women...they wouldnt accept help from me ...didnt want to owe a stranger....If they were going to bilk the church....seems like they would have tryed to trick me first.

Anyway....I understand there are scams out there....and how important reputation is to the snotty and delusional.

Mary had to sleep with the pigs.....Joe prob-ly had to play bouncer...or cut wood ...or....I dont know milk cows or something to pay their rent....seems to me a WHOLE lot of church people have a skewed understanding of reality...you know?...
They watch the dog and pony show on sunday and use that as rationalization to “work the gray areas” and look down their nose at the rusty cars...and trailer house people.....all week long.....Wonder why socialism has a hold on U.S?....part of it is neighbors dont take care of each other anymore....and churches...are sposed to be setting an example...right?

REPUTATION ?.....right and wrong are not ever behavioral absolutes ....they cant be....because situations constantly change. And reputation is based off Perceived behavior....by a group at a distance from the situation.

So.....a church closes its doors”in the cold night”because they “have to protect their “REPUTATION”?....guess what?

Im not giving them a dime then, and the way things are looking....in this country the preachers will be living off donated chickens soon.......again.

so there

I am not saying the situation you cite is right BUT you spend YOUR money several times with this and be scammed and we will see how you respond.

The proper response is to test heavily and even then mistakes will be made. Some churches have a committee to slow things down so in theory the scammers will get light shined on them. Some pastors give their monthly budget away as quickly as possible so they don’t have to deal with it all month. Even if a churches heart is right it can not be done right.

Just trying to help you understand the situation. If you were in charge of benevolence, you would understand.

Yes, the church is dysfunctional but so are we as individuals. Go do your personal benevolence and report back to us. It is our individual responsibility, you tried in this case and it didn’t work out.

Ok Peter.....

Apparently you plan to assuage some imagined righteousness position perpetually....Whatever..........Most of the modern Christian churches are Wealthy.......
.........and just a shadow of what they once were.

The preacher is not part of the community....
The policeman is not part of the community...
The Dr. is not part of the community.....

They are all specialists now.....and they have special revenue generating skills.

Reputation.....Thats awfully important .....right up to the day the news “reviles” What theyve been doing when theyre not telling other people what to do.

Oh Well
