There's lots of Catholic bashing here on FR (though fortunately most of the Catholic bashers are in the minority). What really kills me is when protestant freepers read some headline about the Pope and decide to start trashing him without even reading the Pope's own words.

Tonight, he was being trashed on FR for mentioning the simple truth that all people can find comfort from painful things in life through their religious faith.

Honestly, imagine how evangelical freepers would react if protestant preachers were trashed this way. Suppose there's some headline about Billy Graham saying "Jews are my brothers and sisters", and Catholic freepers respond by ganging up on the thread to spew "Graham is a phony Christian" line of attack, claiming "Billy Graham is an IDIOT who has obviously NEVER read the bible and says its OKAY for his "friends" to reject Jesus!!"

Somehow I doubt THAT kind of attack against would go over very well here.

Catholic and Mormon bashing is tolerated to some extent on FR. Jew and Protestant bashing is not.

But it is OK if you are born again to bash a Calvinist or vice-versa. That's when I like to break out the popcorn, sit back, and enjoy the fireworks.

Sad but true, even though the RM has from time to time taking out posts that really, really gotten very personal in the attacks against Catholic FRpers.

Interesting how Billy Graham is connected with Jews and your pope is connected with Izlamaniacs....But to get real with an analogy, if Billy Graham had told the people of the Buddhist religion to find God's peace and will in their beads, you can be sure Protestants would be all over him, unlike your religion with your pope...

Friend, you use “Protestant” as if it’s some monolithic lockstep force. It’s not. There is as much squabbling amongst differing Protestant groups as any two religious groups, heck, some versions of Baptists won’t be caught in the company of other Baptists.

Best to take the criticism for what it’s worth, usually it’s not much and leave the victim stuff behind.
