The devils work has to be allowed to finish too, such as described in Revelation 12:9; if he did not get to deceive the whole world, then a great purpose God has set in motion cannot be fulfilled.
Furthermore, even rejection of Jesus as Messiah will be forgiven; there is only one sin that cannot be forgiven, and that is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which is described particularly in the case of those that were indeed converted but then vehemently turned away.
