Marriage Tribunals in U.S. Dioceses have on-staff canon lawyers (advocates), specially trained people to assist petitioners and respondents in the process. Most cases seen by Tribunals don’t require the use of advocates, and you are free to utilize or decline their service.

But yeah, you're also free to hire your own canon lawyer or team of lawyers from anywhere in the world. Nobody's going to stop you.

My impression is that this is rare.
