God did not show up at the Oscars
It would have been nicer had “Son of God” had more to do with the Bible...
Matthew McConaughey is an actor, he makes a living by being someone else. So is he Christian in real life? Is he spiritual in real life? Just asking. On stage at the Oscars he is an actor. I don’t know since I don’t follow celebs. Now his speech was terrific but.....?
“Meanwhile, to those of us who are Christ followers, it was stirring to witness McConaugheys testimony last night; to hear him give God the glory for the opportunities, the blessings he has received over his film career”.
He’ll be back to making B-movies within the year. It is an absolute no-no to praise God in Hollywierd.
Meanwhile his co-star, who won the Best Supporting Actor playing an AIDs infected transsexual, made his acceptance speech, of course didn’t mention God but did say something about not being “ashamed of who you love”. So sodomites get the nod over God with this creep.
Thanks for this report. I didn’t see the show due to epic internet fail and a broken antenna, but I am sure the clips will show up on YouTube eventually.
Meantime, reading about Darlene Love’s impromptu song during her acceptance speech last night, I was reminded of one of the most beautiful performances ever recorded... Kathleen Battle performing the same song, His Eye Is On The Sparrow, in 1983... it was an encore of her choice and she performed it often. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It’s almost impossible to believe any human voice can reach the notes she hits effortlessly, and they sound lovely and velvety, not the least bit squeaky or stressed. She actually comes down on top of the notes rather than climbing up to reach them. And watching her face is a bonus that is nothing less than mesmerizing. I keep a copy of this video in my iPod.
Enjoy:

“It proved the Oscar-winning actor is not ashamed of the Gospel.”
I hate to take issue with you, but he didn’t come close to the gospel. What he said was fine as far as it went, but all he proved is that he is a theist. A Jew could have said what he said, and so could a Mormon, a Catholic, or even a Muslim. He came no where near the Christian gospel.
The gospel is a very specific thing—the good news of Jesus Christ. It is “the power of God unto Salvation.” (Romans 9:16) Judaism, Mormonism, Islam, and Catholicism don’t have the gospel of Jesus Christ. Each of those systems offers a damning system of works. Biblical Christianity differs from all others in that it operates purely on the free grace of God.
Perhaps you know all of this and were simply careless with your words, but I must make this point because many who read Free Republic do not know what the gospel is and isn’t.
Here are a couple of passages that nicely summarize the gospel for us:
“Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (Galatians 1:3-5)
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
So in other words in one night he won an Oscar then made sure he never gets another acting job. Well I suppose he has enough money to retire on.
