Good luck with that one.
How many, within the evangelical movement, still have their dust-covered bible, displayed proudly on their coffee table?
How many folks within the evangelical movement, still allow themselves the slavery of swallowing what the preacher says from the pulpit, without getting a copy of the sermon, after services, to ‘trust but verify’ with their own bible, which is addressed within?
Trends? The Bible is pretty static in its message.
Chesterton says that a fad and heresy are the same thing. And fashion is always a form of madness.
A fad or heresy is the exaltation of something which even if true, is secondary or temporary in its nature against those things which are essential and eternal, those things which always prove themselves true in the long run. In short, it is the setting up of the mood against the mind. (Thats from his book, William Blake.)
Similarly: Every heresy is a truth taught out of proportion. (Chesterton in the Daily News, June 26, 1909.)
And: A heresy is always a half-truth turned into a whole falsehood (America, November 9, 1935).

On target.
That is why we must know our Bible - read it and pray every day - to discern Truth from babble (or worse).
