Mormon women look for entrance to priesthood

A group of 500 Mormon women who want ecclesiastical equality with men are expected to seek admittance to a male-only session of the faith's spring conference on Saturday, as they promote the ordination of women into the lay priesthood of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Adorned in purple, members of Ordain Women plan to march from a park to the Salt Lake Tabernacle on Temple Square, the heart of a four-block campus that is the church's global home.

They will stand in line for seats to the evening priesthood meeting at a semi-annual two-day conference, after last month church officials rebuffed their request for advance tickets to that meeting.

In a letter, the church said "activist events" such as the group's attempt at entry detract from the sacred environment of Temple Square and the "spirit of harmony" during the two-day conference which includes four events open to both genders and the male-only priesthood meeting.

"We're not activists. We're not protesters," said Kate Kelly, a Washington, D.C.-based human rights attorney and lifetime Mormon who last year co-founded the group with about 20 other women.

"We're people on the inside. We are investing in an institution ... not critiquing it to tear it down," she said.

There have been women trying to be ordained in the Catholic church for, I think, decades.

It will be a cold day in HeLL when women are allowed into the LDS priesthood.

Ya know; 37 years ago; another person who had chosen to be a MORMON was saying...

It will be a coldday in HeLL when BLACKS are allowed into the LDS priesthood!

Well, let's see...they had prophetesses in the early Christian church...Anna (Luke 2:36) + Philip's four daughters (Acts 21:8-9)...Would the Mormon Church claim them to be disharmonious for daring to prophesy?

This need to somehow "protect the priesthood" is where the Mormon church turns the word "priest" 100% upside down.

When you read the Bible, a "priest" was one who represented the people before God (intercession). The "prophet" was one who represented God before the people.

Mormon leaders constantly claim the priesthood represents God before the people, but that is pure Biblical distortion.

Peter taught about the priesthood of all believers (1 Peter 2:4-9) -- as did John (Rev. 1:5-6).

They were trying to get in a session reserved for members of the priesthood, which includes most males in the church who are 12 and older.

well this article at least admits that even little kids can get into the Mormon meetings but still adult women are barred from attending...

Help, the Mormon priesthood has caused the constitution to hang by a thread...
